Wuld that mean uploading the file to deviantART or Mediafire would be fine? I am converting the files to a program called MikuMikuDance, or MMD. It has a complex file type (.pmd/.pmx), and it can only be exported to .x and .obj, and can be imported into Blender, Metasequoia, and Cinema 4D with the help of plug-ins.

So, are the models nearly re-uploaded or what? I'm not really understanding the issue, but I just want to know if they're coming back up and around how soon?

Basically, the host I was using before said that I used too much data, and dropped the site. The new one I've moved to has no data cap and is a lot faster, but the roestudios address still points to the old site; even though the new site is online, there's no way to get to it until eithed ICANN (International Committee for assigned names and numbers) or the British Domain Regulatory Committee change the address to point to the right place. It's annoying, but out of my hands right now. I can guarantee they will be up by Monday, but they could well be up sooner.

I can't host on dedicated download sites because the models are (c) GameFreak and get removed immediately. The site has to be independent and not generate an income in order for Nintendo to allow distribution of the models on them.

Guys, the site received so much traffic that it went offline. I'm in the process of migrating it again to a different, faster, host. Due to how the internet works, I can't put it back online any faster than I am currently. All being well it should be finished by tomorrow afternoon/morning. Please faveroute/watch so I can notify you when it gets back up

Howdy! Is there an alternative download link? I tried to follow the one provided and it says the bandwidth limit is exceeded.

No, there isn't unfortunately, although since I'm on an unlimited plan I will be having words with the hosting company and get them to put the site back online ASAP. I'll let you know when that happens!

hello, i'm using blender since a very short time -> i'm a total beginner ^^
when tried to open Bulbasaur's file blender just opened a new file instead of a bulbasaur
i tried it with [file->open->.obj-data] and i tried also to change the standard programm of .obj files and doubleclick it, but both does not work... >.<
Am i doing something wrong? pls i need help

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheModerator In reply to ayachusi [2013-06-17 19:28:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, not by much though. Because it's a model file designed to be quickly added into a blender file and not a blender file itself, you have to go to File->Import->Wavefront .obj and choose the obj file. That's all there is too it, just use import instead of open.

Any more questions, feel free to ask

Ok, by the way, how Did you do the eyes? I try and it puts in the whole texture...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheModerator In reply to gdpr-22192562 [2013-06-28 13:53:37 +0000 UTC]

The eyes (the mesh if you've not joined them, the eye faces if you have) must be assigned (By UV mapping) the texture called (with Meowth as an example) "NyanthEyeDh". Eye textures have 'Eye' in them, body textures have just the 'Dh' at the end.

I've put a youtube video up, theres a link to it in my previous journal post Let me know if that helps!

No, I don't have that much spare time and I'd alwo have to do it for each program, whereas these are universal. They're in a rigging pose though, so you just add the skeleton, link and you're free to go

LordOfDragons In reply to ??? [2013-03-17 14:25:31 +0000 UTC]

So if I understand the legal notice on that page correctly these are not your models you just ripped and touched them up? What game you took them from?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheModerator In reply to LordOfDragons [2013-03-17 14:51:25 +0000 UTC]

I took them from the wii game "poke park", but they were in the brres file format, which isnt used in 3D editing. I extracted the textures and texture maps, then applied them via algorithm to the models themselves, which were also in the brres files, then packaged them all up nicely. It wasn't a simple ripping operation to get them into the final product, if that's what you're asking. The models are not mine, I don't want to project that impression either so thanks for bringing that up.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LordOfDragons In reply to TheModerator [2013-03-17 21:19:14 +0000 UTC]

No problem. It's just that this kind of ripping goes beyond modding and might or might not make big N jumpy. Sometimes they are very hard on taking down stuff and then again at other times they let it slide. Time will tell. I would certainly advise to mark properly where the models come from (not just that it's from big N) to secure yourself a bit more.

(side note... so I take it you did not properly "reverse engineer" the file formats to properly read them but hack your way around it)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheModerator In reply to LordOfDragons [2013-03-17 21:43:58 +0000 UTC]

It's good to know some people there are law-wise as well I'm a software dev so I know all about attribution. The models are actually property of GameFreak, the Intellectual Property behind that, Nintendo. The legal notice goes above and beyond the required, specifying USC 17 Sect. 107 and enlisting gamefreak as the content owner. I had, however, forgotten to list a contact address, so thanks for reminding me.
There is not 'proper' way to reverse engineer anything, so by that definition anything of that sort could be classified as a hack, but as a defense: Youtubers put up videos with soundtracks from DRM protected mediums. This is the same, just with 3D models from a game, which are covered - for now - under the same laws

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LordOfDragons In reply to TheModerator [2013-03-19 19:31:06 +0000 UTC]

I call a proper reverse engineering if you can load all resource files from a game properly without guessing, hence understanding the most important file structures to load the data you are interested in. That's obviously my view. Good to see you care about the proper crediting. Not that often nowadays unfortunately.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheModerator In reply to hitmontop16 [2013-03-17 14:52:50 +0000 UTC]

Download the file you want, then import the type you prefer into your 3D editing program (Blender, Maya, Autodesk). If the textures are askew just change which one is being mapped. It depends which program you use.
