Yesterday we managed to beat back another heretic assault, they're getting bolder by the day, throwing themselves into our guns, they care nothing for their lives.... We're stationed on the western approach to the capital, holding a trench line overlooking the main highway, the fighting has been practically ceaseless. The precious few moments of calm we get are spent eating, sleeping, cleaning our weapons and for some prayer and reflection. Every night as I check the line I can't help but think, even now as moonlight and snow blanket the ruins and remains... how many of these faces will I see tomorrow, will I see tomorrow and will our world be saved?

I won't lie, things are bad, we knew we were in for a hard fight but this is something else. These traitors are killing everyone and we're the only Imperial Guard in the sector, they say the fleet's on it's way but...I don't know anymore. I tell the men to remain strong--that we stand for our homes, our families and the Imperium, but...slogans only go so far when one looks out at this nightmare. No matter where you go, you can't help stumbling upon the dead....guardsmen, militia, citizens and even children, all dead...all waiting for help that never came, if only we had more time.

I suppose the only thing we can do now is do what the Guard does best, we've all pledged our lives to the God Emperor, we'll die on our feet, we'll die fighting to the last. Emperor see us this day...place your hand on our shoulders and may we find eternal glory in our final and finest moment.
