| Trivia |
Redfang’s favorite prey are water voles.
Redfang enjoys snuggling and watching thunderstorms.
Redfang smells of pine and rain with a dash of cedar.
Redfang likes kits, and wanted some of his own; this was another reason why he agreed to become the mate of Berrysplash.
Despite them not actually being his kits, Redfang was fiercely protective of his adopted litter with Berrysplash. He loved them with all his heart.
| Kithood | Redkit was born halfway through leafbare. His parents were from two different clans; He was originally born into Thunderclan, as that is the clan of his birth mother, Patchfur. When the leader of Shadowclan, Ratstar, learned of Redkit and his littermate Gingerkit’s existence, he brought several of his warriors and demanded that Thunderclan handover the kits. A war nearly broke out between the two clans. Many in Shadowclan did not support Ratstar’s decision as they saw no value in the two tiny scraps of fur, but Ratstar persisted. Since Thunderclan at the time was struggling through leaf-bare, they did not protest despite all of Patchfur’s wailing. After a few tension filled encounters, Thunderclan turned over the kits to Ratstar. Ratstar returned with the two kits, just a few days old, and gave them to the only nursing Queen in Shadowclan at the time, Benttail. The queen gladly took the kits in and nursed them into strong and fit cats worthy of Shadowclan. Reddit’s kithood was shrouded in secrecy. He believed, as did his sister, that they were the kits of Benttail, alongside Bramblekit. Redkit had no idea who his real parents were, though he often wondered why a Warrior by the name of Sootfoot was always fussing about him and his siblings.
| Apprenticeship | When it finally came time for him to be an apprentice, Redpaw was given to the viciously loyal Shadefoot of Shadowclan. The she-cat was always harsh with Redpaw, often unprovoked. Redpaw spent the first two moons of his training believing himself to be a failure, for not once did Shadefoot approve of him, despite all his efforts and successes. With or without her approval, Redpaw was beginning to prove himself to the clan as a great potential warrior. It was around this time that his rivalry with his brother Bramblepaw began. The two toms eventually became rather aggressive with each other. When he was three moons into his training, Redpaw learned the awful truth: He was half-clan. The words were spat vehemently from the mouth of his brother Bramblepaw. Redpaw couldn’t believe it, and attacked Bramblepaw in anger for saying such “lies” about his own brother. The two were broken up by Sootfoot, who told Redpaw that he was in fact a half-clamber, and that Sootfoot was his father. Redpaw ran off in anger after his mother Benttail confirmed the story. Shadefoot tracked him down, and for the first time since he had become her apprentice she complimented him. The she-cat assured him that despite being born in another clan, he was more of a Shadowclan cat than his father and most others in the clan. She explained that he had the heart of a Shadowclan Warrior, and that’s all that mattered. After this incident, Redpaw became even more ferociously loyal to his clan and to Shadefoot. He spent every moment working. When leaf-bare returned to the forest, Redpaw became famous for his knack of tracking down prey to feed the clan. On a particularly chilly morning, one of the Queens from the nursery became wild with fear because one of her kits had managed to sneak out of camp. Redpaw set out with the other apprentices to find the kit. Being the best tracker of the bunch, Redpaw managed to find the kit, Berrykit, by midday. She was nearly frozen, buried beneath a heavy pile of snow. He dug her out of the snows and was not at all kind in his reprimand of her behavior. Bramblepaw ended up taking the kit back to camp as Redpaw stalked off to do some hunting. Nearing the end of Leaf-bare, Shadowclan had to defend against a surprise attack by Windclan. The cats of the hills were starving and attempting to take more territory from Shadowclan as it appeared they were the only clan that was doing better than the rest. Redpaw fought bravely alongside Shadefoot, and the warriors managed to drive away the Windclan cats. The deputy of Shadowclan perished in the fight. Ratstar decided to name Shadefoot the new deputy, and after the battle, Redpaw was deemed worthy of becoming a warrior. He was given a ceremony before Bramblepaw and Gingerpaw, and bestowed the name “Redfang”.
| Warriorhood | Redfang quickly gained a reputation for himself as a merciless warrior of Shadowclan. He did not tolerate the other clan cats stepping so much as a paw out of line, and in a border dispute he was always the first to jump into a fight, and usually win. Redfang was applauded by most of his clan mates, though he still did not speak much to Bramblepaw or his father Sootfoot. When the nursery kits came of age, Redfang was awarded Silverpaw thanks to Shadefoot’s words. Redfang trained the she-cat diligently, and enjoyed their time together thoroughly. Because he was a younger warrior, he was often left to deal with all of the apprentices as the senior warriors preferred to hunt and patrol. Redfang thus spent a lot of time around the former kits. He was particularly impressed by Berrypaw, whom he began to feel a connection with. Redfang was extremely displeased to learn that his brother, now Brambletail, was also interested in Berrypaw. It soon became clear that Berrypaw favored Brambletail, which left Redfang furious. Once again he became estranged with his brother. He tried to focus on training up Silverpaw, whom he began to notice was smitten with him. Redfang ignored her interest as he was not fond of her in that way. Halfway through Silverpaw’s training and into leaf-fall tragedy struck the cats of Shadowclan. A bout of Greencough spread through the camp and the medicine cat did not have enough herbs to contain the problem. Redfang was one of the few cats who did not catch the cough. He secretly journeyed to Riverclan territory and tracked down their medicine cat as she was out collecting herbs for her stock. The young warrior essentially charmed the herbs out of her and came back to the rescue of his clan mates. His brother Brambletail was extremely sick, and despite the herbs did not survive. Ratstar, who was extremely old by that point, also lost two of his lives to the cough, leaving Shadefoot as the new leader of Shadowclan. The new leader of Shadowclan chose none other than her former apprentice Redfang as her deputy. Not long after Ratstar and Brambletail’s burial, Redfang found out the 10 moon old Berrypaw was carrying his brother’s kits. She was extremely afraid and Redfang promised to speak on her behalf with Shadestar. Berrypaw was made to reside in the nursery and to spend time caring for the kits until they were old enough to eat prey, at which point she would be allowed to resume her warrior training whilst Benttail took care of the kits.
