Description
Some rough sketches of a sequence of perilous events which Rasha manages to survive as a fugitive in the fortress-city of Vleinonhile. Becoming separated from some fellow escapees, Rasha finds himself in a seemingly vacant alley where homeless citizens have died of the cold and starvation. As patrols suddenly approach, Rasha pretends to be one of the dead, and is routinely dragged into a kind of disposal tank filled with corpses floating in oil. As the disposal tank is automatically flooded to capacity with oil, nearly drowning Rasha, he, the corpses, and the oil are released down through a drainage system to be dumped outside the high metal walls. Rasha clings to the edge of the pipework to avoid falling, but the pouring oil forces him to lose his grip. Plummeting down into a runoff canal, Rasha is carried out into the 'mote' of polluted water surrounding much of the fortress-city. Floundering refugees and corpses alike are prodded away from the shore with poles, so Rasha swims to a further shore and there sneaks up through patrolled slopes, using his sorcery to cause distractions and chaos for the covert operations he finds there. Coming to the sheer rock underlying the metal walls, Rasha dejectedly acknowledges his reliance on the attributes of a warlock, and by using his claws, attempts to climb his way back up.
