My guess is that Mercury's semblance can screw with the mind of anyone he's made physical contact with... which is actually something that happens in real life with mercury. Mercury was actually used in hat making centuries ago, and it's theorized that the frequent exposure and poisoning gave rise to the term "mad as a hatter." In fact, a lot of people assume that mercury was the key component of what the Red Lotus used to poison Korra, hence its appearance, metallic nature, and the havoc wrecked on Korra's mind. So if TheRogueSPiDER is modeling some of the members here after the Red Lotus, it might actually be incredibly fitting.
So in conclusion, Mercury's semblance is sending people to Wonderland.

Its not beyond the realm of possibility, though I'm inclined to think its more Neo's work with illusions. Especially in that latest episode twist. I got the impression Mercury got his name from the Roman deity to emphasize his fleetness of foot, but admit, never gave his semblance much thought.
Interesting tidbit though: Mercury was the patron deity of financial gain, commerce, eloquence (and thus poetry), messages/communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves; he is also the guide of souls to the underworld. So your theory may hold some merit. Especially since the show loves its fairytale motif.
And RogueSpider did make this image, but I commissioned it as part of my fanfic. I'll have to consider your idea when I plan the big showdown in the final chapter.

So it turned out that Emerald can make people see things, even at long range. We were both wrong about who pulled that stunt with Yang and Mercury. But yeah, Neo has to have light bending, illusionary powers. We saw her swap outfits right on camera in front of Ruby. I suppose it might be a 'superior' form of Emerald's given that it's not limited to just one person (two at max) witnessing it. Although Emerald's is super handy if you just want to F*(k with one person and make them seem crazy. Still, if I was Emerald, I'd feel really envious.
