Description
The tales and myths of the Balbals has been credited to Tagbanua people of the Philippine archipelago.this tribes people believes that Balbals come to funerals or graves too steal and drag away corpses to devour.
Particularly described as undead and is associated with other Philippine creatures of mythology that feast on human flesh whether that be fresh or rotting, such as the Aswang, and or the Amalanhig. But while Aswang are described to be flying shapeshifters but not undead while the Amalanhig are described as undead like the Balbal is.However the Balbal is described to be undead but able to take flight according to some reports with large leathery bat-like wings.
They seem strangely to have an intelligence of some kind, seeing how one behavioral detail reported is that's Balbals upon taking a corpse they replace it weirdly with a banana tree log, apparently to trick the humans who find the missing corpse
My depiction here was/is meant to be more like a modern zombie style undead but with a long pointed tongue and at least this one possesses a very mutilated or malformed appearance.
You might notice this art is in color unlike the last three I've posted recently also those were from the A section of the list I'm working down and this was actually one of the first in the B's.I've might have went from A down. But I have a backlog of art I'm working on uploading this backlog of my cryptidABCs series are not in the same order they where made in
This creature concept I have not made a new iteration other than a Spore creation, but as mentioned in the description of the previous cryptidABCspost(#0023:Albatwich).
I cant get my modded Spore launcher to work at least at time of writing.
Drawn first pencil rough sketch then went over with fine point pen back in youth. Colored with colored pencil.
