Description
In deep, enchanted forests, there's always a low buzz. A costant hum, a whirr of wings of unknown origin. The small eyes of the Pixies watch over the passersby. They wait for instructions of their mothers. They order not to act. The wood then becomes completely silent.

Ecology
Pixies are a small insectoid creatures that live in forests with a high concentration of magic. They are very active during the day, being more chill during the night. They live in large colonies of up to a thousand individuals. Despite being closely related to other arthropods, they present a feather-like structures on their head and neck and a mandible-less mouth.
They present a very marked sexual dimorphism. Females have longer "feathers" and denser antennae. They also have the innate ability to weave magic, though fairly restricted. Males are usually smaller then females, but have stronger limbs and can endure harsher conditions.
They are decently smart, having an intellect comparable to that of parrots. They follow a matriarchal system, with a restricted group of old females setting the rules for the colony. These old females decide who is allowed to use magic, when to hunt, when to move, when to fight or when to flee. The loss of these matriarchs can bring the end of a colony.

Final Thoughts
It seems that one of the main goals of my project is to de-humanize many creature. To be more specific, it to make each creature stand out, not being a human with variants. All these near-humanoid have, in my opinion, not a good design. So here I am changing them drastically.
