Description
Limited value study from photo. Instructions called for a simple block-in by sight, which I found much more difficult than construction, especially when it came to being informed about the placement of values afterwards.Key Points
- Must remember that halftones and dark halftones come before core shadow (light -> light halftone -> dark halftone [-> terminator] -> core shadow).
- Terminator = area (band) of increased saturation (could be useful trick to spotting it; use as division b/t halftones and core shadow)
- Must consider value relationships of the whole subject in scene before looking at values of individual parts. For instance, darkest value on legs != darkest value on arms despite both volumes being roughly cylindrical. (This is due to arms facing away from light source more than legs.)
- Transitions in halftones are key to imparting dimensionality of form.
- Use knowledge of anatomy to figure out volumes beneath skin in order to understand shape/location of form shadows and highlights.
Artrage 4.5, Cintiq 13HD with art pen.
