Thanks, Alyssa! Some of them were inspired by photos that didn't involve pencils (for example, "The Simple Things" was inspired by a similar photo with markers, although it was more of a macro shot). This one was inspired by a photo I found online using crayons, although I wanted to take it in a bit of a different direction. Instead of a happy, cheerful shot with bright colors, I thought it would be better to go a bit darker and send a more serious message.
