Description Union City was settled near a Dutch trading post. Union City was once a hub for the manufacture of embroidery, possibly due to its location near New York City. The factories employed many immigrants from throughout Europe. Today there are few factories left. The largest industry today is te service industry. Union City was actually once two separate towns, Union Hill and West Hoboken. These two towns merged in 1925 to form what is today known as Union City.
