Original Court: White Diamond's court
Location: NH, USA, Earth
Role: EGU Leader/Founder, DB has degrees in animal care, and him and topaz run a large animal sanctuary together in New Hampshire.
Personality: This gem is smart and confident in his battle strategies. He's also witty and isn't afraid to say what he wants about people he doesn't like. He doesn't show his more emotional side unless it's in front of the gems he loves the most, and he doesn't cry often. It’s also hard to get him really angry as he’s pretty chill, but once he is angry it’s usually because his family has been threatened.
Backstory: He once worked for White Diamond with his friend Blue Calcite as a warrior in an army. While on an Earth mission with Cal and two other gems named Green Turquoise and Topaz, they all wandered off and got lost in the woods. They traveled to earth about 100 years before the sky arena incident would’ve taken place if the Crystal Gems existed in this world. While in the woods, the four of them talked-and sometimes fought- about what they would do when someone found them, but after becoming attached to the Earth, they decide to ask DB and Cal’s General if there is a way that Earth can be spared. Eventually DB and Cal run into General again, but after suggesting the idea of Earth being sparred, General considers them defective and leaves them behind. After that they go back to Topaz and GT and tell them what happened. The four gems decide to keep an eye on what’s happening to the planet, and if they can’t do anything to stop it they’ll find a way off planet.
This would lead to them eventually gaining enough power to be able to fight for Earth and the life that lives on it. Over time more gems would join their group, specifically ones who had a greater interest for interacting with humans/animals or those who didn’t want to work for Homeworld anymore for one reason or another. They were a smaller group than the Crystal Gems for a good long while and were dangerously close to being defeated, but Pink -the person put in charge of Earth- would secretly help by sending gems and resources whenever she could that would ultimately come in clutch. During the final battle of the gem war the main eco gems were bringing humans and local wildlife to another part of the planet for safety while their allies were fighting off home world gems that the Eco Gems weren’t able to while leading animals and humans away.
The final attack was launched just as DB and the other main eco gems were getting the last of the human/animal survivors out of there, but right before it did happen another tragedy occurred. The Eco Gems had no idea that this would be the final battle of the war, but they’d had the suspicion that things were coming to a head. Blue Calcite, who had gotten separated from the main group in the chaos, had taken out as many horrid homeworld gems as he could while his gem was beginning to falling apart at the seams. It had been taking serious damage from the gem he was mainly fighting, White Moonstone. After defeating her, White Moonstone revealed what the diamonds planned to do to earth’s surface since she didn’t think he’d last long enough to get that information to his comrades.
To protect them, he used his last burst of energy to make a mad, but careful, dash to the other side of the battlefield. He tried to warn the allies he’d move past as he ran, but they were either preoccupied/too far away to hear him/too far from a warp pad to escape immediate corruption. If not away from the only healer left, Pink Topaz, his gem would’ve been salvageable before he made that mad sprint. By the time he reached his close friends, he managed to get their attention before collapsing to the ground. Shortly after passing on surrounded by the ones closest to him, his warning came to pass when an ominous song became faint in the distance.
For the first time since they’d all met only during the previous 1,000 years, their minds practically became a single unit with one goal in mind: protect the injured, and make sure that their comrade didn’t die in vain.
All of the eco gem leaders and their partners/most of their second-in-commands/some exceptions decided that they would fuse and take the brunt of the blast to protest those in an underground area looking after the injured. They wouldn’t all form one massive fusion, instead forming a large fusion and two smaller ones. This would work, but only to an extent. All gems hit directly by the blast would separate from the fusions they were in and destabilize/poof from the effort of not fully corrupting.
After the final battle was over, Pink’s involvement in the war was discovered and she was stripped of all of her royal duties. Pink then managed to escape with Pearl/Garnet/Amethyst and fled into the far reaches of the cosmos, and up until recently during the purple Diamond war she hadn’t of been seen by homeworld or the EGU. For thousands of years after the war the Eco gems have lived amongst humans and animals, albeit keeping some parts of their life secret as to protect their earth friends. DB and Topaz would have three children together, and would take in a “teenage” Dia when he crashed on earth thanks to help from Howlite and her crew. After living with them for some time, Dia reunited with Sphalerite and his old friends and family from his decimated home planet.
After some long discussion, it was decided that Purple Diamond must be stopped. The war against Purple Diamond partially took place before Steven allied with the Diamonds in his world, and only towards the end did the Diamond authority provide assistance because Purple Diamond was becoming a threat to them too. This collaboration plus Pink’s return with some new alien allies/friends she’d made while secretly protecting whatever planets she could from Homeworld caused the Diamonds to lessen their grip on the cosmos as they were convinced by Pink, DB, and Dia like with Steven but with less familial connection.
