You see, Mighty Ray here promised his friends and family when he left for Big Green that he was gonna bring home a pretty lady. What's funny about that is he actually has a male preference on the Bi scale, but can only kinda talk to women while with men he either acts all tough and rivalry or crumbles like dust. Imagine his shock (though he probably should've seen it coming considering his taste in men), when he started falling hard for the tall, strong, handsome, kind, brave, and artistic Lin Chung. Cue much internal screaming and his friends lightly teasing him about this bc he tried so hard to deny it for a while when it was plain as day to them.

Apetrully made no such promise to his family of finding a pretty lady. He'd already come out to them as gay years before even thinking of forming Big Green in his teen years (in this AU he starts Big Green at 34-35 and is close to or is 40 by the time Twin Masters dies)
He told his sisters whenever they asked about him dating that he was simply too busy
Well, months after Twin Master’s defeat he just so happens to meet a semi-new arrival to Hidden Kingdom; Gelada Baboon King and his people, who have finally established a proper kingdom after being forced to leave their homeland due to conflicts in a nearby region. Cue Apetrully being smitten and eventually getting together with him, which his sisters lightly tease him about.
By this point Apetrully has revealed his identity to Big Green, he just chooses to wear the box bc he's worn it for so long and is kinda just used to it by now (plus it protects him from sensory overload bc autism)
