Art Curation Week
So, as an art appreciator, you have incredibly good taste and decided to curate some amazing art on DA, well good for you buddy!
But where to start? DeviantArt is packed full with incredible art waiting to be discovered, collected, and featured, but how to find it exactly? In this tutorial, we'll see some options you have to curate art on DeviantArt like a pro!
Search & Browse
Let's start with the obvious; searching for art. Searching for stuff on the internet is one of the most basic actions, so you should already be familiar with it. For this, you simply go to a field box, which usually has a magnifying glass, type the word(s) of what you're looking for and hit enter. Voila! You get the results of your search. Easy peasy lemon squeezy, right?
In the case of DA, the search bar is always at the very top of the page.
However, searching for something does not always give you the results you want. This is because by doing a very basic and general query like "flower", you get all the results that have the word "flower" in the their title, description and keywords, which are a lot!
But maybe you're looking for something more specific. By doing a more specific search, like "black flowers", you get better results. Also, if what you're looking for is photos of flowers, it would be best if you go to the Photography category and then do your search there; the results you'll get will only be within Photography and its subcategories.
If what you're looking for is for Fractal Flowers, you go to Digital Art > Fractals and search for "flowers".
There are a few tricks to narrow down your results even more by including some very simple codes to your search. Let's just see some of the most useful and common ones:
Searching for Multiple Terms:
fish cat
Returns results that have BOTH "fish" AND "cat" in their title, description, or keywords for deviation search, name, group tagline, description, custom tag for group search, etc.
Matching Multiple Terms:
fish OR cat
Returns results that have EITHER "fish" OR "cat" - but with an emphasis towards Deviations that contain both.
*Please note that OR must be capitalized in order to be considered a parameter.
Excluding Search Terms:
cat -fish
Returns results that have "cat" but not "fish".
Using Parentheses:
dog (fish OR cat)
Returns results that have "dog", plus EITHER "cat" OR "fish".
Category Searching:
fish in:photography
Returns Deviations from the Photography category and its subcategories that have "fish" in their title, description or keywords.

Groups
Groups serve a lot of purposes. For example, some dedicated to specific themes. There are groups for everything! These can also be useful when searching for art. Simply search for a group with the subject you're looking for and it's almost sure you'll find at least one group for it. But how to find these? Simply go to @Groups!
So, let's continue with the same example and search for flower-related groups; there are a few! Here are just some of them:
Groups can be an excellent way to discover great art with a specific theme and while you're at it, also get to know other people who share your interests, discover great artists who create art that you most probably like, and even join and contribute yourself!
Asking The Community To Help You
We're a community! So curating art doesn't necessarily need to be something you must do on your own and there are several ways you can ask people to help you find great art and have fun while doing it.
Journal and Status Posts
As simple as that! Posting a Journal or a Status post and asking people to contribute art is perfectly valid, take for example moonbeam13 ' Pimps and Whoas . The journal always ends announcing the theme for the next issue and inviting people to contribute! Moonbeam is doing great! Be like Moonbeam!

Did you know DeviantArt has its own forum and chat ? That's right! In these, you can directly interact with your fellow deviants and among these, there are a few sections dedicated specifically to share art.
In the Thumbshare Forum , you can share deviations, yours or other's, discuss and ask for feedback, etc. Planning to curate a collection and/or post a journal feature? Ask your fellow deviants to share some art in the forums!
Also, if you have a Core Membership, you can have access to the Core Thumbshare which is, well, exactly the same, just for Core Members, hah!
*Please note that these two forum sections are the only ones where you're encouraged to share and ask for art. If you do this in any other section, you'll be redirected to Thumbshare or Core Thumbshare.
Chats: ThumbHub
In the case of Chats, much like with Groups, there are rooms dedicated to a lot of subjects and with a lot of purposes. One in particular, #ThumbHub, is dedicated precisely to share art, very similar to the Thumbshare Forum.
#ThumbHub is DeviantArt's busiest chat room with dozens of artists sharing artwork all day, every day. Chatters use simple commands (such as !myart) to make the chat bot post art thumbnails, making it super easy to share the creations you post to your DA gallery with everyone else in the room. There are even commands to show off collections you have curated so you can help the other chatters discover your favorite artists from the community! Not only is sharing art the main focus of #ThumbHub, but the chat gives you the unique opportunity to meet other deviants from around the world in real time to learn about their art or even what they feel the most superior pizza topping is!

More Like This / Recommended For You
DA has a couple of great features that help you find art similar to what you like.
More Like This
While viewing a deviation, in the right part of the page, you'll find a few options like the buttons to add to your favourites, download or share in social media, etc. Below, you'll find more pieces from the same artist and then the collections it has been added to. Below this, you'll find "More from DeviantArt" and a link to "Browse More Like This".
"More Like This", as the name suggests, is a feature that shows you similar deviations to the one you were viewing. These deviations most likely will share the same style, the same themes, or have other things in common. It's an excellent way to find great pieces related to what you're looking for!
Recommended For You
In the case of Eclipse, there is a new feature called "Recommended for you". Similarly to "More Like This", it suggests you a few pieces in the right part of the deviation page, related to what you're currently looking at.
Also, in the Watch page, there is a new option, "Recommended for you", which will recommend deviants that DA considers might interest you, artists that make art that you might like, or fellow users that behave similar to you. For example, if you do a lot of Community-oriented activities, you might find other people who do the same.
Unlike "More Like This", "Recommended For You" is focused on artists rather than on a specific art piece, but is yet another way to find and curate amazing art!
