I dunno if this is relevant... but it seemed completely identical to this situation:

A friend of mine was having a conversation with a group of our coworkers, and he said "Yeah I just read that researchers have found scientific proof that bacon sandwiches cure hangovers" at which point I did an acrobatic fucking pirouette :thumb203918195: off the god damn handle. Mostly because it's the propagation of misconstrued science or flat out psuedoscience that causes the overall IQ to drop. but yeah after an hour of research I found out that this statement came from a spin doctor at some "science center" in england, and nothing she said was actually exclusive to bacon sandwiches, furthermore she's not even a damn scientist.

Eh, I feel like your room mate would probably get why this is hilarious and frightening. He seems quite devoted to meticulous details
