B is for Beaver. Beavers are a kind of rodent. Beavers have thick fur that keep them warm in the winter, just like winter coats. A beaver’s thick fur keeps him warm in the winter and warm in the freezing cold water. And get this, his coat is water proof. A beaver has great hind-feet for swimming, he has skin between his toes, when you have that, you have webbed feet. And a beaver’s webbed feet help him glide through the water. And a beaver’s tail has scales on it, like a reptile or a fish. And a beaver’s tail is flat like a paddle used for canoes, and a beaver’s tail is flat like a paddle so he can use his tail to do all sorts of amazing things. For instance, when a beaver smacks the water with his tail it makes a really loud sound, that’s the way he tells all the other beavers danger’s near. So a beaver is swimming along, he sees a predator like either a Fox, coyote, otter, bobcat, great-horned owl, or wolf, so he slaps his tail. That tells the other beavers to swim for cover. Another amazing thing a beaver uses his flat tail is standing up on it when he’s chewing on trees🌳🌳🌳 or when he’s eating corn🌽, but a beaver usually eats wood and tree bark. And beavers actually have orange teeth. A beaver’s teeth are orange because they don’t have the white stuff called enamel that covers human teeth. Enamel is the stuff human’s brush everyday. And beavers are heavy, a beaver can weigh as much as a human child can, a beaver is a big little creature with a huge urge to chew. Beavers chew on trees cause he needs them to build his lodge, which is a beaver’s home, a beaver lodge looks like a big pile of sticks, but you know what there are rooms inside. And beaver’s like to build their lodges near running water. Beavers feel safe in the water, so that’s where they like to be “in the water.” After the beavers chew down some trees, the carry branches to the spot they’ve picked for their home. Then, they put those branches into a big pile. And when that’s taken care of they go underwater, and chew their way through the branches making a hollow that turns into a cozy home. Beavers are also great swimmers, they have see through eyelids, that’s how they can see underwater while they’re building their lodge. The twigs and sticks beavers use help make the lodge really strong. Beavers also use mud to build their lodge, cause when it gets cold, the mud will get as hard as concrete.
