Dear potential doormat,
I find your letter amusing but barely passable. We all know a true doormat would not apply directly for a position and would be recommended by someone else who uses doormats by the dozen. You made it through the week of silence without making a nuisance of yourself with those pesky follow ups though. Your qualifications are impressive also, and I will take them into consideration when selecting a new doormat. That is assuming I cannot find a more soundly trampled candidate.

I realize my blunt mistake in putting myself forward, a shameless act of hubris for which I apologise in the most grovelling ways.
