Description
Between lecherous laughs,Petty gambits and songs
Our mind’s eye is shrouded
From graver concerns
For if foresight is given
It is often entombed
In the vaults of Eternal
Spring’s mischievous ruse
Because our cheerful threads,
Be they chaste or obscene,
Meet the blades of a tailor
Mending an endless seam
What the adjutant brings
Silken wings, morning light
Must the raven bear back
Coarser sheets, three day’s flight
And the wedding bell chimes,
When the lovers are torn,
Will redouble their knells
For the hearse and the urn
For the drums in your breast
Will finally rest
For the coming of silent grim toasts
And how many, perchance,
Will your pleas will entrance
Of the larval unmovable hosts?
If life is a triumph
Pyrrhus leads the parade
He comes to pay tribute
At Thanatos’ gates
So do not mock death,
Lest your tongue pierce your cheek,
A jester’s last court
Is Osiris’ keep
And heed this advice
Before Night claims its lot
With camel’s back broken
The straws matter not
