beautiful shot ive always liked watching deer during rutting season, makes you look at them as more than just an expendable prey animal which i know a lot of people do all to often
what sucks is when their antlers get caught together in such a way the it can stay like that for days, ive heard stories of them starving to death or beng eaten by coyotes because the can't get out, almost amazing when you think about, must be pretty strong antlers XD

Yeah...does that really happen...? Looking through my photos that was exactly what I was wondering...if they'd never get stuck....but this does actually happen?!

yup, you can find tons of videos on youtube, what happens more than anything is that they fight, one dies from exshaustion, and the other is left with a dead deer to drag around until he either somehow gets loose or dies trying, though if it gets to that point then more often than not the second one is the outcome.

I don't know if they get caught so they starve, but this year in DK an older stag got caught in undergrowth, and while struggling to get free, his opponent gored him to death. But must be preferable to starving to death...

You sure have captured a great moment of competition! I remember watching BBC:s Planet Earth, cannot remember the episode, but it was awesome to see couple Rams fighting each other like this, on the steepest slope imaginable, and they fell down meters after meters while fighting and then getting back up at each other, nature is amazing!

how far away are you when you take took this photo? cause if the deer seen you, wouldn't they attack you because they're in the ruttin season?
