Close up of Toshiya, I like this photo because it's a nice neutral photo.No joints can be seen so I'm sure I can trick a few people thinking he is real XP

Okay...now you have asked a DANGEROUS question XD
expect a LONG~ answer hahaha...nah kidding I'll try and keep it short XP
The Jrocker heads are custom made, there is this project called "the minimee project", it's by a doll company called "doll in mind" => [link]
With this project they make heads after people, so you order a head [celeb = $430 and non-celeb = $380], send the company clear HQ photos of the person you want on the Q&A board
Which need to be clear [rather no bangs], in HQ and:
- Profile shot
- 3/4 shot
- front shot
The head will look as good as the quality of the photos you send
From this the artist will make the head, after the artist has made the clay mold you'll get previews of it. At this point you can still ask for modifications, like "the nose is too big, or the eyes need to be more almond shaped, etcetc". These extra mods will cost you $50 in total.
If you send Denny [the maker of the MNM project] your "OK", so in your eyes he or she is perfect they will cast the head in resin [urethane].
This whole process takes about 2 months to complete.
This is just for the heads, and with each order you will get 2 of the same heads.
The bodies, you can just order. Doll in Mind sells bodies for the Minimees, these are cheaper than their own DIM bodies and in the same resin as the heads.
But you can also buy bodies from other companies, keep in mind that the size and colour may be off, because companies always use their own resin.
The body I use for my boys is a Senior Delf male body , created by Cerberus Project and sold by LUTS => [link]
The size is perfect and the resin colour also matches perfectly. I have also ordered a DIM Minimee male body but that will take around 6~7 weeks to get here =w=;;
So just have a look around, there are MANY more companies, and if you go to my livejournal page, a bit down on my profile page there is a list with most doll companies ^_^
Well if you have any other questions, just let me know <3

oh wao custom made okok it all sounds very interesting but u have sooo many dolls haha i'm thinking how the heck i'm i gonna afford only one doll haha or only his head anyways thanks for the BIG pile of info i need to get a job NOW haha and then probably i'll afford this cuz i also have in plans to buy a camera and a good one mine died like 2 years ago and i've been using my cousin's cam for a while but she has a normal camera i actually would like a CANON and very good one too so there goes my money
i would have to become rich to catch up to your pase
haha , but i really really LOVE those dolls i've become a BIG fan of them and i'd love to have at least ONE i'd be happy enough with my own doll
or by the way how BIG are yours? are these dolls worth all that money and are these dolls consider like collectables by people or something??
cuz here in DA many people have and i saw once a gallery of a girl that had like 10 and i was like O.O how can she afford soooo many because they obviously look very very expensive and well made!
and if i get to buy one what sites do u recomend for me to buy? that are safe!

Do you know the international doll forum?
link => [link]
Here you can find more dolls, info, pictures, marketplace, etcetc
You will find that there are cheaper dolls, thou not as good looking in details and in super high quality.
Oh yeah I got a canon now and I love it <3
It's a cute and easy to handle camera with good functions...thou I would still like to try out a Nikon >_>!
My dolls are 63cm and 70cm, there are dolls from 10/2/5/6cm, 24, 30, 42/3/5, 52, 57, 60/2/3/5/8, 70 and even 80cm tall...and I think I got about all the sizes they come in XD
Prices will be for quality, limitation, resin type, resin colour, brand name, quality, size, etcetc
And so far I have never heard anyone say that after getting their doll he, she or it wasn't worth it. They don't lose their value so you can also see it as in investment. Limiteds will become worth more as well. And I NEVER liked dolls, but these are just so different. They really are something else.
There are some people that collect them, but most just have fun with them. They sew clothing for them, practice faceups, sell things for them, and take photos of them. We even go to meets in our own country or countries close to us.
It's a cool hobby in my eyes, but like everything it does have some annoying people in it, and will try and ruïn the fun for you. But as long as you remember that you bought the doll for yourself you'll be okay ^_^
I'm sure you will start to see your doll as a kind of silent friend of yours.
So in my point of view, it really is a cool hobby where you can have a lot of fun, develop your artistic skills and meet many new friends near you or on the other side of the globe and countries in between ^w^

i don't really care about brand name since i dont really know one yet!
when u bought your first one was is exciting to recieve it? haha cuz i bet
u were soooo happy!
well i've always like dolls but it wasn't like a BIIIIIG thing for me they were just ok, but these dolls wao yeah they are something else
i just NEED one hehe yeah it really seems like a cool hobby and u can get very creative
thanks for the info and sorry for bugging u ^^

lol many people have said "it's only going to be 1!!" XD
But they broke that promise pretty fast haha, 63~70cm is tall yes, but they are so slim and detailed that they still seem pretty small, it's hard to explain.
But when I got my first doll, which was also the first doll of this kind I had ever seen I was like "THIS is 60cm?? o_Ô??"
They really are like tiny people, and yes I was very happy with him. My parents were a bit..."o...kay" my dad more than my mom, because I was of course too old to play with dolls, let alone these expensive dolls XD
But when he arrived we were sitting in the sitting room and I unwrapped him and we all went "O_O.....O_O.....O_O.....wowx3". We all were blown away by his beauty, even my dad liked him, so now they are used to it, and they don't even look at me funny when I have just spend almost $4000 on these Minimee heads ^_^;;
SO I'd say go for it, I have yet to regret getting into this hobby, and I can't really think of a day I won't have my dolls anymore o_O
And you are not bugging me ^_^

haha yeah it might be true that after i buy one i'd wanna get more haha
but for now i'll be happy with only one hehe
ohyeah i kinda get the point of them being pretty tall ,but at the same time
small.
haha yeah i think that's how my dad will take it like O...kay what in the world are u thinking of buying these expensive dolls and your already 19 haha wao so much money $4000 haha but it's worth it haha your dad liked it hehe does it get to the owner completly naked? like in a pretty box or just a simple box? does it come with hair on it head or do u have to buy every single thing apart? cuz that's what's bugging me!
hehe
thanks a lot

ThyStoryTeller In reply to Beauty17 [2007-11-19 18:24:05 +0000 UTC]
haha yes it's MORE than worth the money, of course I can always use the excuse that they are my models to practice my photography on XD
Limited usually come with some sort of suit. Some companies sell kits, which means that you have to put them together yourself, but they always add the elastic string, plus it's REALLY easy to string a doll, but they are cheaper because it's less work for the company ^_^
But yeah they mostly come naked haha...and I'm not sure how...open you are but these dolls are anatomically correct...but there are also angels and non gender bodies, which usually look more boyish because they don't have breasts as well.
There are some younger people on the forum that aren't allowed to buy boys because of that feature from their parents =_=;;
Which would be HELL for me, cause I ONLY have boys XD [oh yeah I have 1 girl on the way lol]
You can also choose if you want them with a company faceup, this will cost you some $$ more, or buy some materials like soft pastels, acrylic paint or stuff like [non-oil...oil will not be good for the resin] You would need a sealer/coating like Mister Super Clear Flat to protect the resin from the colour pigments and to actually make the paint/pastels stick on the doll.
So I think with your first doll it would be good to get one with a faceup and once you are more at ease with him/her and read some more info etc you could always try it yourself ^_^
About wigs, some companies add a random wig, but most don't...but all companies sell wigs in the right size.
You will find that it IS looking around a lot to find the things you want for a doll which results in high shipping costs ^_^;;
But there are group orders where people split the shipping costs etc. So we try to make it a bit easier.
Well there is still so much I can tell and explain but I think that would be too much atm, so for questions you know where you can find me XD

haha yeah that why i want a doll too cuz i also love pjotography and that'd be great to practice on
oh okok their cheaper...
haha it doesn't matter cuz their only toys so yeah i would obviously buy a boy with gender......haha
ooo okok yeah i want something that's not so difficult to order but at the same time i think i'd want the face to be custom made since i only think on buying one *for now* but that's much more expensive right?
i already have an idea of who do i want it to be but i have 3 guys on mind
at the same time if it's to expensive i'll have to settle down for a normal face doll for now heads are always sold apart right? and i still don't understand that thing about resin's but what i really want u to help me in is like what do u recommend in general:
what type of resin,head,body size everything since is my first one that i would get i'd be lost if nobody helps but i really have to read more info in the site u gave me in the forum i mean.

Most companies do custom faceups, you just have to explain very clearly what you want. And just a few of them charge more for custom faceups, most just charge the normal faceup price.
Companies sell whole dolls mostly, and sometimes optional parts, like bodies, heads, hands, feet, etc
Most Korean, Japanese and Chinese companies have nice quality resin, some better than others of course, but this will be reflected in the price. There are few companies that really jump out, because of type dolls, service, quality etc.
There are too many companies that are good, and all companies have a hit and miss rate, I mean it is production on a small scale but production none the less.
So all I can say is, look around, take your time and get soaked in the know how of this hobby ^_^

Well problem is with the body I use, you have to buy a complete Senior Delf doll, cause they don't sell the body seperate...yet.
LOL that's great! It's always fun to see the way people react to these dolls.
I actually have Toshiya with me at work now haha XD

I didn't order him with a faceup, cause I can do them myself ^_~*
And yes I took off his head, and put on the other heads. lol that's true, but be prepared to get stared and laughed/giggled at. Some people ask questions, some try to make fun of you and some just stare...*rolls eyes* like they have never seen a doll before 9_9

Yes a faceup is I believe $50/55 extra, but all the Senior Delf boys have the same body, I just picked the one I liked best when it came to his face.
And no he doesn't come with a wig, you would have to buy it extra
