Her story:
So in the Star Wars universe, there was a war in which the Jedi fought against a droid army (called the Clone Wars). She fought in a few battles in that war, and it sort of twisted her view of the Jedi, who she thought were supposed to be “peace-keepers”, not soldiers. After the war, she sets aside her robes (sort of rejecting the Jedi and their actions, in addition to the other stuff) and goes out on her own. There’s a little more to her story than that, but I think the important thing to take away is that she desperately wants to see the galaxy for all the love and peace and goodness it has, but she has also seen the worst sides of it as well. Because of her experience in war, she’s sort of wrestling internally with her tendency to be kind and good with the cynicism and callousness she experienced as a soldier.
