Description From behind a lacy curtain she watched as four riders galloped toward the house. Her husband had sent her inside when he heard the hooves in the distance. She had no idea who they were, but from the looks of them, they seemed familiar with each other. Tadashi walked over and seemed to greet them, the two males nodding their heads in return. Hitoka swallowed roughly before letting the curtain drop. Certainly this was nothing to worry about. She had never met these men in her life, but her husband seemed to know and trust who they were. She scolded herself for thinking bad things on them as she returned to the kitchen.
“Momma!” Marina yelled as the back door flew open, said girl running in with her brother running in after her. “What sweetheart?” Marina’s face was a flustered shade of red, her freckles standing out rather harshly. “C-Chieko..She fell, down by the river..Her leg got cut up.” the blonde perked up before swiftly moving to untie her apron “Just past the field?”
“No, down by the forest. We were gonna go to the lake and skip rocks, but a deer came out and knocked Chieko down. Momma, she can’t get up. I’m scared.” tears were gathering in the girl’s eyes as her little brother clutched tightly onto the skirt of her dress. The older woman sighed heavily “This is why I don’t want to three going down there..”
“I’m sorry. It’s my fault, I let her walk in front of me.” Marina mumbled, the tears breaking away and starting to run down her cheeks. Hitoka slipped off the apron and resting it on the kitchen table before crouching down and gently cupping her eldest daughter’s face, gently wiping away the tears with her thumbs “It’s fine. I’m sure she just sprained softly. And we can always take her to the doctor. Okay?”
Marina reluctantly nodded her head, sniffling loudly. Hitoka pressed a loving kiss against the girl’s forehead before moving to stand up “Now, go get your father, he’s...out front. Tell him what’s going on and that I’m already on my way, okay?” the girl nodded again before gently turning to take hold of her brother’s hand to help him stumble outside. The blonde swiftly grabbed two clean rags and headed out the back door. She run down the sloping hill of their backyard and into the rows of beans that laid out before her. She was half of the way to the river bank when she heard the hooves. She stopped and looked behind her to see two of the riders moving towards her, her husband sitting on the back of one of the horses behind the rider.
Tadashi didn’t even wait for the rider to stop before he jumped off of the horse and started running over to meet his wife, grasping onto her hands tightly, a look of panic gracing his face “D-Do you know how bad it is?” his own freckles were becoming increasingly obvious to see. He was always such a worrier. Hitoka gently shook her head before gently reaching up to cup her husband’s face “No, but you need to calm down. You won’t be any help if you’re in a panic, you know that.” the male swallowed before nodding, letting his eyes slip shut for a few seconds to calm his racing heart before gently pulling away from the blonde’s soft hands “I’m fine, now.”
The woman smiled before looking up to the two male’s that were standing behind them. They both had dark black hair, but one was taller and his hair seemed to curl up in a wild manner. “Who are they?” she asked, looking to her husband with worry. “Ah, this is Tobio and Tetsuro. They lived in my hometown.” the two men nodded respectively before slowly getting back up onto their horse. “I heard that a girl was hurt?” the taller asked, looking down to them. Tadashi swiftly nodded his head before crawling back up and onto the horse “Down the forest, right?” the brunet asked. Hitoka nodded before stepping up beside the horse, gently handing the two rags up to her husband “Yes. You can use these to wipe up the blood. Please be careful.” the male nodded swiftly before both horses started to gallop through the rows and towards the river. They were trampling a few of the plants, but harvest season had already ended. The leaves on the trees were turning red and orange already.
The blonde gripped softly onto the front of her dress, right over her heart. But her thoughts were broken as she heard Marina and Hiroshi calling out to her. She turned around and saw them running down the slope to meet her. Hitoka stood where she was as the two child ran up and practically buried themselves in the folds of her dress. “It’s okay, don’t worry.” she murmured softly.
Once she had gotten both children calmed down, they were quick to follow the three men down to the river. By the time they had arrived, Chieko still seemed to be a sense of mass hysteria, screaming and clutching desperately onto her father as they shorter black haired male wiped away the blood. Chieko’s words were hard to make out, but calling for her mother was a big part of it. Hitoka trotted down the steep side of the grass that led down into the river, slipping over her shoes and resting them aside as she pulled up the end of her dress to keep it from getting wet.
Up close, it was obvious to see that there was a large gash running down Chieko’s shin. It wasn’t very wide, but it was long. “Chieko, darling, you’re okay. Look, momma’s here.”  Tadashi said, calmly trying to get her to look at her mother. Chieko’s screams instantly subsided as she spotted her, tears still streaming down her face. She was then stretching her arms out towards the female, desperation etched across her face “M-Momma..” she whimpered before the blonde brought her into her arms “It’s okay Chieko, I’m here. You’re okay.”
Hitoka held the smaller blonde close to her chest before feeling her try to pull away “I-I know..but...But he isn’t.” her shaking hands were now pointing further down the river. There, laying in the deeper part of the stream was a rather horrifying sight. A body was laying there, face down in the water. Marina let out a scream, both children still standing up on the top of the small hill. The taller male stood up from the bank and looked down at the body “And that my friends..Is why we’re here.”
