Description The Kamloops was a Canadian steamship. Built in 1924, it was smaller than most other vessels of the era, as it was meant to be able to navigate the canals leading to and from the Great Lakes. The ship's owners frequently kept it out on the Great Lakes far longer than was safe, leading to it getting caught in the ice at least once during its brief history. It went missing in 1927 near Isle Royale; after an extensive search, the corpses of many of its crewmembers were found on the island, most having either frozen to death or been killed by wolves. The wreck itself wasn't found until 50 years later, lying near-perfectly intact on its side at the bottom of Lake Superior. Also found was a rather morbid discovery: the remains of several members of its crew who hadn't been lucky enough to make it off in time, including one particular corpse known as Old Whitey, who is said to follow divers around the ship. To this day, we still don't know what sank the Kamloops.
