Description WOW. =J Where should I start? This anime in my humble opinion is an epiphany of awesomeness that has characters that nearly anyone watching will find some level of common ground with! (I personally ‘mediated’ with pretty much every character in the series although Eri Sakachiwa was the initial reason I got the anime! ^^) There’s Tenma Tsukamoto—the undying optimist (Think Vyse [The Bklue Rogue]/Chacha/Rushuna Tendou).

Eri Sakachiwa (Fun-loving ‘It’ girl who was portrayed in a unique light. I was truly expecting an ‘Asuka Langley Sohryu’ type… which she… is but—isn’t. She reminded me of Charlie Brown’s “Lucy” with kinder undertones so-to-speak at a ‘high school’ age). Anyways… then there is Harima… the guy I kept learning individuals called, ‘stupid’ and ‘moron.’ *Chuckles* Kid wasn’t all that bad. To me, he was actually a very likable character. Tough-guy-wannabe-who-really was a ‘sensitive artist’ who wanted to “Kiss Some Ass!” XDD (Your typical ‘wandering spirit’ who is sure to eventually find his place).

Then there’s Yakamo. Wow. I won’t even get into this affinity—she truly is the apex of what Yasshi-Hibiki’s character was [less being ‘the sister’] when introduced to DDC. ‘Secretly Popular,’ an ESPer who is just learning of who-and-what she is truly capable of. Beautiful-red-eyes-of-innocence…. quiet calm voice that hides her ‘True Abilities.’ Yeah… wow. I could go on about the ‘Character Type’ that in this anime is named ‘Yakamo’ [not to mention characters like Sakaki from Azu-Manga-Diaoh! Who is a near-spitting image of Yasshi-Hibiki Shinrai (less-the-red-eyes-backside-and-exact-height… but tallest in her class nonetheless—and I knew of neither character ‘til nearly FOUR YEARS AFTER role-playing-and-introducing Yashii to DDC! O.O)

Human feelings seem to have a common ground that far exceeds the… back to School Rumble!XD

Anyways… Mikoto is the cool ‘guy’s-girl’ who some might call a ‘tomboy’ who is aware of how she looks [‘that-girl-in-the-neighborhood’ type]. Then there’s your typical ‘wannabe-cool-blonde-guy’ who is annoying as crap—the jocks [who show up ‘late-game’]—the photographer [who I really didn’t find all that ‘backwards.’ Just a typical high-guy with a flair for the female anatomy! ^^ What? Should he be sneak-shooting pics of dudes in their jock straps or taking boring pictures of ‘still life?’ Common now! XD). Then there is the ‘Successful Quiet Guy.’ Yup! ^^ Oji Karasuma.

Now THIS is my kind of anime!

Where some may asay, “I don’t like ‘girly’ anime” or “I don’t like bloody and violent anime” or “I loathe hentai anime…” to me… its about the individual character. The characters. How they are portrayed, who they are—what they look like and what they do as a ‘Piece of The World of The Anime…’ This is my true reason for viewing an anime. Seriously. Since “.Hack//SIGN” I have not seen an anime that is this strong when it comes to have characters that embody this much of ‘Our Current World’ [Our Reality] in such an excellent casting of characters.

And OH! One factor that contributed so awesomely to the ‘Perfect 10’ rating was the SUPERB ‘English Voice’ acting! J I viewed a couple of scenes in Japanese just to hear the difference, and I will say… for the first time—in gosh… since ‘Monster Rancher’ back around 2000 (9 years ago) I really could not see this anime spoken in any language! ^^ From Tenma’s funny outbursts to the sprinklers, “Alright! Who’s-Ye’r-Daddae-Now!!” And “Directing Dialogue” (as she pumps up the guys for competition! ^^] Wow… when compared with the initial Japanese Dialogue—for once—I must say the English voice cast did an awesome job bringing out Tenma and the other’s characters!

For example, Mikoto’s shout of, “Me-and-you-baby!” After a round won in the ‘Man-horse’ battle pitched as well as her agitated aggression when the notebook hit her face and she asked, “Who the HELL threw this!” In the ep. Where Hirama was accused of ‘Being under the same umbrella’ [‘brella… ‘brella… ‘brella! XDD] with mu’h-girl Eri Sakachiwa (who by the way—has a character that shares a similar synergy to me of that of ‘Super Genius Maru-chan’ 2-years older—in high school [instead of college]. ). Speaking of Harima—his ‘brief-live-in’ with the ‘Hario Labeling’ gal who eventually becomes the school nurse—her voice… was more convincing [to me] in English than in Japanese. She was more—brash-in-character (which really worked to me).

Back to the ‘Playing Field…’ the ‘English Phrase of Gold’ [to me] didn’t come from any of the main characters (in-all-their-awesomeness! ^^) Na’uh. The statement from the ‘one-ep.’ Announcer, “PAINT MY ASS BLUE AND CALL ME A BABOON!!” was by far the most funny phrase I have ever heard in any anime (English, Japanese or otherwise! XDD) to date! Other phrases that brought out the laughs was, “You’re built to make babies.” “Here Yakamo! FILL Your Belly With MY Creation!!” (ß Hanai speaks of a meal of Curry he has prepared and so-desires to serve... Fuggin’ AWESOME! XDD) and well… the “Matrix Spoof” actually wasn’t a ‘word’ per-say… but was so damn funny to me! XD

In fact… I intend to do something with that scene here real soon. In addition to the phrases and statements to the English version of “School Rumble” are also what I call, ‘Smart Changes.’ For example—the Giraffe (Pyotr) is actually voiced by a ‘female’ in the Japanese version, but is voiced by a ‘younger-teenage boy’ in the English version (and yes, I know the laws about adolescents not being able to be Seiyuu in Japan. I still found this difference rather interesting). Also, the ‘Train Ride Through Space’ song really threw me off-guard when I listened to it in Japanese. I expected just to hear the gal sing the lyrics in Japanese—but um… it was a dude!! (Who by the way, sounded to be Hirama’s Japanese Seiyuu. Still not sure though. ).

I will say, I dug the Japanese vocals best, but the chic-vocals just… worked better [to me at least—and apparently to the directors of the English version of “School Rumble” as well… ) in the English version. It had this kind of… “Disney-Pixar-Like” feel since it was a ‘Flying Train Through Space’ and all [not to mention done in CG]. Wow! O.O What I find most important though—is the fact that this anime was able to hold my attention so greatly that I completed it in just-under-a-week (WHILE getting remixes and studies done too! ^^).

In addition to switching back and forth to hear these much-loved-characters bicker-talk-talk back and forth in English-Japanese-English-Japanese—I literally shouted out, “NOOO!! OH NOOoohohohooo!!” half-laughing-half-crying when episode 24 eased to an end. In-brief—I just didn’t want it to end! (First time… I’ve felt this strongly about an anime seriously. I often am glad to get from one series to the next. But this one… I strangely began wishing would do a ‘Rumiko Takahashi’ and carry on for 150+ Episodes! XD).

Speaking of “Carrying On…” gosh… the ‘tid-bits’ and ‘added-episodes’ before-and-after some episodes [for example the “Akira Takano” bit and the “Hirama’s-Karasama-Is-An-Alien-Manga! XDD Both funky-fun-stunners! ) held the attention and literally had me shout out at times, “AWW MAAAN!!! That was just… AWESOMEEE!!!” Seriously.

Even the ‘very last episode’ suggested that ‘another episode’ was coming up… but the series was officially… over. (At least for now. ^_^). Seriously… with major ‘character types’ [ß You will find an ‘affinity’ with at least one—possibly several or MORE!], ‘humor,’ [ß Lots of it! ], ‘random-level’ [ß Very well balanced might I add! ^], and characters like Karen (the ‘hardworking strong girl’) and ‘The Senile Old Man’ [who although do not have large parts—the anime wouldn’t be complete without! ^^]—this is a PACK-FULL anime that will most certainly be absolutely LOVED by patrons of ‘Romantic Comedy Anime’ and Loathers of them alike! ^_^

Something for everyone in this anime—be your ‘First Language’ Japanese or English!
PAINT THE ASS BLUE AND KICK IT SCHOOL RUMBLE~! XDD

School Rumble 4 EVA’H! XDD

P.S. The ‘character profile bits’ before and after each episode [in Japanese—turn on Subs if the only Japanese word you know is ‘Sayonara!’ XD] are also helpful in adding depth the story-and-characters! ^^

I love this anime.
I wish there was a 3rd season where Harima gets some closer. ;A;
