Description
Background:In CTC 4 Electrical Box competed in this same challenge and created a torture chamber for crabs. When Gem rod announced the the challenge was returning, Electrical Box immediately remembered his past entry and felt regret for his actions of crab murder, however he also realised that this same challenge was the challenge that he came closest to winning in CTC 4 and so because of this he decided he should reference it in his new sculpture. Introducing 'The Crab Torture Chamber Memorial Sculpture', this sculpture is dedicated to the lives of the crab's whom Electrical Box killed in his other challenge, acting as somewhat of a grave, but unlike most of the grave's that you would find at a graveyard, this one is far more sculptural and abstract it also demonstrates conceptuality.
Concept/Design:
The Main concept behind the sculpture was of course to reference his challenge which was closest to winning from the first season of the camp he competed in as well as to give the crabs from this challenge a proper send off. Because of this he carved a crab into the sculpture and hung some of the bodies from its claws to make it clear who this grave was dedicated to. He covered the bottom portion of the statue in sand to give the crabs more of an identity, because these crabs all loved sand... they probably did anyway, they were crabs, regardless it was a nice design element. Another concept which Electrical Box revolved his sculpture around was the duality of life and death. The skull at the top of the skull at the top of the sculpture obviously represented death, and also just made the sculpture look really cool and less like a boring grave. To make it look even cooler Electrical Box carved out a hole in the head where he could place kindling and light a fire, producing smoke which would bellow out of the skull and create a very cool effect, when the fire is not lit the hole is not very noticeable so it doesn't take much away from the sculpture. The wings represented life and also the afterlife because wings are of course a heavenly symbol and could represent the possibility of the crabs souls travelling to somewhere beyond this earthly realm. The wings were also made of sandstone which contained water in its pores and so when the fire is lit, the sandstone is subject to heat causing slight weathering which allows the water to drip out of the rock and onto the ground below providing the plants which grow there with life, entertaining the idea that life and death go hand in hand and you can't have one without the other. The angels and he crucifix were added to make the sculpture more of a spectacle and also because some of the crabs may have been religious and he wanted to give them a proper send off.
How it was made:
Electrical Box created this sculpture out of two types of stone; granite and Sandstone as well as a few additional features to give the sculpture that extra pizazz. Although the sculpture looks very complex and like it would have taken a very long time to make it was actually fairly simple and did not take as long as some might think. The Foundation of the Sculpture was carved from a large granite Boulder, The top half of the statue was chipped away without any thought into any random shape because the shape of the grave did not really matter to EB. From this shape Electrical Box carved the Large skull at the top of the granite mound and then at the top of the skull carved out a hole large enough to light a fire in. After the top portion of the Sculpture had been carved out Electrical Box moved onto the toughest part of the sculpture which in the crab claws and crab head protruding from the sculpture's base the antennae of the crab in particular required delicate precision but Electrical Box worked hard and was able to create a satisfactory crab, after this he just chiseled away at the rest of the granite to finalise the shape. He had now finished with the granite portion of the built and moved onto his sandstone, from the sandstone he chiseled two seperate wings which proved to actually be fairly simple as he only chiseled their basic shape, he chiseled small holes into the wings and placed excess stones from the gravel within them to make them look less simplistic. To attach the wings to the sculpture he just carved out holes in the back which he could slot the wings into. From here he used some of the excess rocks from the granite and placed them in a ring around the sculpture to make it seem more impressive and also help with support, he also used excess sandstone by grating it down into sand and gluing it along the bottom portion of the sculpture. Now all he needed to add were the finishing touches, he lit the fire in the skull to create smoke and give his creation a menacing effect and then chiseled more holes into the base to slot in a crucifix and two angels which he had stolen from the church which incorporated a heavenly and traditional aspect to the grave. Electrical Box thought he had finished the statue but realised he hadn't actually buried the crabs under it and since it was a grave he hung two of the crabs from the chamber from the claws using string so that they were a part of the sculpture. Including the dead bodies which the grave is dedicated to would probably usually be controversial but these were crabs so it didn't really matter.
sorry for the bible testament lol
