This bronze statue of Amida Buddha, which is one of the oldest in Japan, dates back to 1252. It used to be housed in a wooden hall until a tsunami washed it away in 1498.
It is 13.35 metres tall and weights about 93 tons.
The inside is hollow and visitors can go inside for a fee of ￥20
