River: Doctor... Doctor?
10: [wipes blood from his face with a grimace and sits against the door next to River] Mmmhm......?
River: Are you all right?
10: ...? Oh, this? [doesn't sound entirely with it, a little too gleeful] Aaah this'll wash right off. Time Lords, tougher'n you think.
River: [raises an eyebrow with concern] I know... and you took more than most can handle.
.
10: Why thankya very much....... BUT! BUT BUT BUT....ooooh this is bad.
River: Bad?
10: Bad bad bad BAD!
River: What? What's wrong?
10: We're stuck, he's stuck god knows where now with him all because we've got to maintain our timelines, and we've got no way of....of....did you know that the word lethologica describes the state of not being able to remember the word you want? Lovely sound to it.
River: [drops beside him to rest a hand against his forehead] You're in no shape. I think you're in shock. Stay still and whatever you do, don't let yourself fall asleep.
10: Oh pffff, who made you a doctor, eh? Doctor Song....actually, you know, hang on....
River: Unfortunately, Doctor, I'm not that sort. I'm good with tombs, and unless you want that sort of expertise, I suggest you stop sending all your energy to your tongue.
10: [tries to cross his eyes to look at it] Eh? Watch wrong wivv it? [regrets the action and grimaces] Ah-oooh-kay... yeah... ow.
River: [claps a hand over her mouth, trying not to laugh] You are such an idi- you silly fool... if you'd been like this in my universe, goodness knows what I'd've thought of you.
10: [leans his head back against the door and shrugs] [mumbles] Not much, I don't think.
River: [sits properly beside him, reaching out for his face but hesitates] I think you're wrong.
10: [laughs] I think I'd know. Been there.
River: [frowns slightly] You met me?
10: ...........did you know that American car horns beep in the tone of F?
River: Doctor...? [strokes his hair to wake his senses] Don't you drift, don't you dare.
10: [visibly jerks] Onnellista uutta vuotta!* - sorry? What?
River: You need to focus... [kisses him]
10: [goes completely still]
River: [breaks off gently and looks into his eyes]
10: [stares back for a moment, stunned and - due to the events of the day - somewhat scared] [blinks a few times] Uh.....wait, what? OH, FOCUS. Right.......um. OH! SITUATION. Bad. Yes. Bad, very, very bad, because very soon chances are we're going to be alone with two rather less-than-sane Time Lords and did you know that a quarter has 119 grooves around the edge? Right, no, okay, moving on! We've got to either find somewhere safer or get out. Latter'd be nicer but I doubt this TARDIS is very friendly.
River: [nods, worried] I think we're lucky we even got in here. She won't let me get to the control room.
10: Right, so...we either try and beat her at her own game somehow or try to weather it out.
River: You need to rest. We should find you a Zero room.
10: Hah! no. Not gonna happen. Not putting myself nigh-on in a coma for you to have to wait it out with them around. It's just concussion, I'll bounce right back out of it soon enough!
River: You don't have to go into a full coma. I'm asking you to rest! I'll fare just as badly with you walking into walls out there.
10: Pfffffft! I don't walk into walls! They just get in my way some times - and don't believe what anyone else tells you.
River: [stares]
10: [grins]
River: [sighs and rips away some bandages at her midriff before applying them to the cuts on 10's head]
10: Ow ow ow! [swats at her hands and shifts away] What is it with you women and the inability to leave things alone? It's alright! Look, I'm... alright. I really, really want to burst out with some more facts but we've got to get a plan in order here.
River: If we can find the room I was kept in, I think I can track down another gun.
10: 'cause that worked so well last time...
River: This time, I'll shoot them. So help me, I will.
10: Nah you won't.
River: You don't want me to shoot those bastards?
10: Wellllll...I'd love you to - would be a weight off my mind and a blessing for the universe. But we can't. They have to go home.
River: My world was sealed off, that's one of them at least that can't get back.
10: Baaah, we'll work it out.
River: [laughs, not knowing what else to do] Is that your answer for everything?
10: I don't think so. Most of the time it's 'yes'. Or 'I knew that'. Occasionally there might be an 'ooh!' or 'well I never', but not that often,
River: [pulls 10 into a hug]
10: [winces a little, but gently returns the hug] Oi, you alright? 'Cause we're getting out of here, one way or another. Reckon we can outsmart this old girl into taking us to the console room. Just a matter of making her think we're that other Doctor.
River: How are we meant to do that? You're not even the right face.
10: [grins] I've got his sonic screwdrivah! Best start we could hope for!
River: [smiles]
10: So, we've got his technology...if we can find an access point, we might be able to do a little bit of reprogramming, just enough to stop the TARDIS changing rooms all the time, anyway.
River: There should be wiring of some sort in or around the roundels in the corridors, or if we're lucky, there could be something even in here.
10: Well then, better have a looksie, shall we? [stumbles to his feet, swaying a little, and starts exploring the walls]
River: [gets up, searching too]
10: Find anything yet? This side's looking pretty sparse.
River: [sighs, irritated with the room] No, it's got to be the most useless place in the whole TARDIS, aside from being exactly what we needed.
10: Isn't that always the way? Speaking of which, did you know that Donald Duck's middle name is Fauntleroy? Hah!
River: [raises an eyebrow] If I didn't know any better, I'd say you had a Gallifreyan wikipedia in your brain that's got set to random.
10: Pffft! My mind is NOT an open-source access database of information, thank-you-very-much! [lists a little and heads for the door] The corridors it is!
River: [smirks and follows]
10: [stumbles through the corridors] Should be one here somewhere...... AHA!
River: [looks around the corridor cautiously in case they're caught, watching 10 set to work]
10: [rips off the paneling and starts fiddling with the wiring, using settings and information from the sonic to try and alter the TARDIS' workings] Almost....think that's... aha! That should do the trick!
River: [clasps her hands hopefully]
10: [hauls himself back to his feet and offers River his hand] Right then, shall we?
River: [takes it] Whyever not?
10: [grins and sprints down the corridor, the haphazard turns suiting his inability to keep in a straight line for terribly long]
River: [hurries along with him]
10: If memory serves right, we should be at the control room...really...shortly...
River: [keeps looking behind her in case they're followed]
10: [charges on] Right, should be just around this corner! AHA! [breaks into a beaming grin] Here we go!
River: [smiles, relieved, racing along with him into the TARDIS's control room]
10: [leans against the console for a moment, grimacing, before smacking the monitor] Right, come on, where are we... oh, River, you'll need this [offers her the sonic]
River: [takes it] What do you need?
10: To find out just where we are...and once I'm sure it's habitable, you're getting out.
River: [suspicious] You can just check that on the scanner, can't you? And what about you?
10: [stares for a long moment] .....OH right, yes...[turns his attention to the scanner, tapping the screen as if to wake it up] I'm gonna do what I always do: find a way around this, beat the baddies and pop back in time for tea. You've got the sonic, I'll use it to track you down and pick you up as soon as this is all safe.
River: [stares back for a moment half as long] [then-] Okay, find us a planet.
10: Yup yup, on my way [starts fiddling with the controls, not all of which he's used to] [mutters] You change the desktop and everything just gets sillier...
River: [sighs] Hang on, I'll help [starts flicking switches herself]
10: [stares] But you can't fly the TARDIS!
River: [pulls down a lever and sets her on a course through the vortex] [raises an eyebrow] Can't I?
10: Wh....since when?!
River: [rolls her eyes] I'm half timelord. I learned from my father.
10: [stumbles with the TARDIS' takeoff and holds onto the console] ...ah, right. Okay....never thought him the teaching type.
River: [glances sideways, flicking another switch to stabilise the TARDIS in flight] You did know him then? In this universe I mean.
10: [frowns a little at the unexpected smoothness of the flight and nods, focusing on poking around the console again] Yup.
River: [narrows eyes] What the other one said, the other you, that you let him die. Is that true?
10: It wasn't my choice. There was no time to stop it and he's stubborn.
River: I think Koschei must've been a lot different here than he was where I'm from, but then, so is the Doctor. I'm surprised I'm even talking to you.
10: Yeah, if everything's like I can imagine...[winces and goes quiet] [after a little while] So, uh....dare I ask who your mother is, then?
River: A human from Sol 3. My father was attacked by my universe's version of you and crashlanded in her garden.
10: Yeah? Anyone I might know? You never know, you could be the daughter of a rock star or a politician or a hairdresser! Oop- [lists again as the TARDIS goes still] Think we've landed.
River: Any idea where we are?
10: [checks the scanner] Looks like 25th century Earth. Think it's Latvia. Could be Estonia. Or Birmingham.
River: [rolls her eyes] Well it'll have to do, little earlier in time than I'm used to, but can't be a chooser. Plus... there's still an Earth here...
10: Yup! With luck you shouldn't be stuck here too long; don't intend on taking years to get rid of these two, I can tell you.
River: Yeah, you'd better not. [glances at the door]
10: [eyes slowly go unfocused as he continues frowning at the console] Right. Well, better hurry, surprised we've had this long as it is.
River: Oh don't say things like that [sighs and hurries for the door]
XI: [strides in] Why not? Afraid you'll jinx some'ing?
10: [flinches after a delay] River, run!
River: [is already running] [reaches the door and tugs at the handle] [turns the catch this way and that but it still doesn't unlock] [yelps with fearful fury]
XI: [leans against the railings on the top stairwell, toying with his knife]
10: [growls miserably at the TARDIS] Of ALL the things to do...you're as bad as him!
XI: Oh don't blame her, even if she knows who her master is. I fitted the door with some passenger-safety measures.
10: [moves towards River] Well isn't that just charming of you.
XI: What? Don't you just wish that sometimes those companions of yours couldn't just go whizzing off getting themselves lost or killed or worse? Handy thing, like a child-lock but for humans... or I suppose in River's case... half human.
River: [glares] I wish I'd killed you years ago.
XI: [grins]
10: Humans, eh? [pounces for the door]
XI: [watches him coldly, making a split-second decision] [takes one step down for a clear shot and sends the knife flying ]
River: [cries out, clutching the knife handle in her chest]
10: NO!
