Description
One of two things is happening here: either I'm seeing a pattern where there isn't really one, or 's episodes of MLP tend to come with some of the best/craziest facial expressions. It's really noticable when a character's face goes off-model, and maybe it happens more and they slipped my mind, but they seem to occur more when Raven boards an episode. I feel like I ought to have a look at more of the board artists on the show, see if I can pick out particular gestures/poses/angles/etc that seem to be unique to each artist.Unfortunately, ain't nobody got time for that, (I REALLY should've been working on some work for university instead of this comic) so I'm just gonna go with this for now.

For some reson I believe that especially canadian cartoonists are prone to draw extreme faces
I remember seeing two or three webcomics where the characters can get the most awesome expressions ever, only for me to figure out that the artist is canadian.

Well, I didn't get Cartoon Network until 2006.
Let's see, childhood shows...
Well, "Animals of Farthing Wood" was a big one, I liked but could never watch a whole episode of "Noah's Island", I quite liked "The Wild Thornberries", I thought "Cramp Twins" was ok, but never really got that into it, "Arthur" was one that was always on, "Xiaolin Showdown" and "The Jackie Chan Adventures" were always kick-ass, the original "Pokemon" series' were a huge part of my childhood, then a little later on, when we finally had Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, I really got into "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends", the first "Ben10" series, "Spongebob", and back when I first got into Flash animation in like 2005/2006 was about the time that I became an "Eddsworld" fan.
I think that's most of them. At least, cartoon-wise.
It's only recently that I've gone back and watched "Powerpuff Girls" and "Dexter's Lab", and a couple episodes of "Samurai Jack", and then there's the cartoons that I would currently call myself a fan of; MLP:FiM, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and Regular Show.

I've never watched any of those shows!
(except Cramp Twins and Pokemon)
I mostly grew up with basically every Cartoon Network show in the past. Though "Courage the Cowardly Dog", "King Arthur's Disasters", and "Ed, Edd, n' Eddy" were the shows that were closest to me.
And you've basically nailed all 4 of my favorite present shows!

Yeh, I imagine CBBC and CITV here in the UK probably had slightly different programs to what was on state television in Lebanon at the time.

Ok sorry to flood this deviation with comments regarding our interests but I couldn't resist.
I've actually watched and cherished PPG, Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Ben 10, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Spongebob. I should have been more specific.
They actually did put a lot of shows on state television. Only now we get the free CN, which is CN Arabic. I can understand it, but it's just not the same with English voices.
Though, they do put MLP on it, and Arabic Fluttershy does sound adorable.

Y'know, I've only ever seen clips of MLP in other languages and stuff. How much does the script get changed in translation? I know some countries in that sort of area tend to be a bit more than strict with what they let on television.

TheMAM In reply to timsplosion [2013-02-25 13:03:00 +0000 UTC]
OH GOD! Don't even get me started on that!
*sigh* Ok it's like this. I have an assumption that all the shows being translated may be from different agencies. There's one where they're a little accurate and don't really leave most out. For instance, Johnny Bravo would have the same pronunciation as it was in English. Whereas others, such as Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, would be named Dandy and Mr. Trouble in Arabic.
On writing there's a different note however.
See, in channels such as Disney Channel, they tend to keep the shows intact with Arabic translation, while keeping scenes that might seem inappropriate to wussy countries. Whereas others, such as the most famous Arabic kids channel MBC3, tend to remove all scenes of which they find inappropriate to children, from a simple hug to a glance even. If there was a love or crush relationship in a show, they would change the script of speech to seem as if there was only friendship.
And that's just sad. Don't kids have the right to be challenged nowadays? Weren't they raised well enough to know right from wrong? I mean, damn, if you could just see the subtle scenes they removed, you'd understand.
I know it might not seem like a big issue, but goddamn it's just too frustrating.

True dat. The characters' faces went off-model so much that I'm not sure there even IS an 'on-model' for any of them.
