In response to requests you have made on some of your other images, I would like to offer a few suggestions if I may.

First, I copied this image, photo shopped it with nothing more than "auto levels" to show my main point. You can view it [link] "by clicking this link. Please let me know when you have seen it and I was remove it from my gallery. I chose this picture more because of the background and your face is hidden, and it shows a dramatic difference in the lighting.

One of the things that auto levels does is adjust exposure. As you can see the skin tones, carpet and highligts in your hair stand out very well in this shot.

Also, you can see that the focus is a bit off. That can happen when there is not much light, and you use an auto focus camera. I don't know what camera you are using, so it would be hard for me to recommend adjustments for your camera.

But lighting can make a world of difference to any camera. From a $10, keyring, digital camera to a top level, professional Nikon. Photography is, after all, nothing more than recording light.

You have been told to use more light. You have not been told how to get that light. Open your drapes, gather a number of table lamps, buy a couple of studio lamps. Rule of thumb for light is; when you begin to feel like you need sunglasses, you should have enough light.

Most important is that the light you use needs to be the same kind. All sunlight, all florescent, or all incandescent light. Don't mix them or it will give you odd blue or yellow tints to your pictures.

You can gather several, small, table lamps, and set them around you, or in one area (behind the camera). Leaving the shades on will give you a softer light with fewer harsh shadows. Removing the shades will give you more, but harsher, shadowy light. You can also hang a white bed sheet up in front of the lamps. This blends the light of all of them into one light, spreads it out and softens it.

If you can, increase the "ISO" of your camera. This means that you need less light to take a picture. Be careful as image quality drops as you increase your ISO. Somewhere around 400 or 600 may be about as high as you can go.

What about the flash that comes on the camera? I'm glad you asked that question. Three words: "No! No! Bad!" These flashes almost always produce a harsh light that makes light areas, like your bra, turn pure white with no detail, and at the same time lets shadow areas, like the rug, come out black. It can be used, but you would do much better with extra table lamps.

Next, get your framing better. One of the cardinal sins in portrait photography is to cut someone's head off. Nothing can ruin a good picture like the top of the picture being in the middle of your forehead. And you happen to be a good example of why that is. Your hair is lovely, long or short, and should not be left out of a picture. It is part of you and should be seen with you.

Set your camera up and stand close, take a shot, move back a foot, take a shot, move back again, and repeat this until you find out where you are in frame. Measure the distance, or put a piece of tape on the floor to use as reference for future shots.

A photographer would do wonders for your images. Depending on what you want to spend, you can get someone who can guide you to the best possible pictures that can be taken of you, or anywhere below that quality. You could easily find someone who would be willing to take the pictures for you at no cost. I for one would be most happy to take all the pictures you want for free, just to be able to take pictures of you. But you would not get the quality of pictures that a professional would produce.

Also CAUTION you don't know me. I could be a dirty old man who wants to do more than just take pictures, if you know what I mean. So if you opt for a photographer, paid or free, it doesn't matter, make sure that it is someone that you know and trust, or have someone you know and trust standing just out of frame while you are being photographed. Better yet, have someone you know and trust that has a good supply of pepper spray and a baseball bat standing just out of frame.

This is not to say that all photographers are not to be trusted. On the contrary, the majority of them are professional and trust worthy. But you only need 1 bad photographer to mess up your shoot. Don't take chances.

You may want to try checking with the photography department at your school. You may find a number of photography students that would be most willing to sharpen their skills behind a camera, while you sharpen yours in front, and do this at no cost to you.

One thing that may help you quite a bit is to understand that professional photographers take about 100 shots in order to get 1. That means 2 things: Most of your shots will stink; And, that is okay. Keep shooting until you get the shot you want.

So to sum it up, you need more lighting, learn how far to stand from your camera to get all of you in the shot, and be careful when selecting a photographer. And no, I did not offer my services as a free photographer. I shoot landscapes and wildlife and would have no idea what to do with a human being in a room.

There are hundreds of tips and tricks you can learn to improve your pictures. It all depends on how far you want to go with it. You look like you are having fun with this. So I'd strongly recommend that you keep it that way. Don't get too deep into the technical aspect of it.

One last thought, you (especially you) don't have to go nude to have people want to look at your pictures. You are down right pretty and adorable. And that goes beyond beautiful in my book. You could wear a burlap bag and combat boots and men would still drool at you.

I hope this helps. And I hope that you took it as suggestions to help you take a better picture and not criticism of the ones you have taken. Feel free to ignore me or to ask further advice, your call.
