People often use the argument that "Rin loved Kakashi" based on 3 things:

1- Rin giving Kakashi a present for his promotion as a ninja.
2- Rin blushing for Kakashi when he won a fight against Guy.
3- Rin dying at Kakashi's hands.

However, "giving a gift" to a ninja who has managed to rise in rank is normal. And even when Rin gave the gift, Kakashi accepted it as if it were no big deal. It was quite a "fuck you" reaction, really.

Blushing when someone wins a fight only shows that you were impressed by their fighting skills, but Rin was only attracted by Kakashi's ninja abilities, but not exactly by him. She was only impressed by his abilities. It's like "falling in love" with the best soccer player, just because he's good at the sport. But crush isn't love, it's just a superficial attraction.

She decided to die at Kakashi's hands, yes, but she had no choice. She would rather die at the hands of a friend than an enemy. She had asked Kakashi to kill her, but he refused. So, to get Kakashi to kill her, she threw herself at his chidori, but "she decided to die at the hands of the one she loved."
