Dark Awakening is actually a pretty upsetting episode,which is saying something given how ridiculous G1 is. Like it wasn't enough to kill Optimus once, they had to bring him back and do it again. And the worst part was that Optimus didn't even know that he wasn't really Optimus. I mean once he over comes the Quintessons programming he pretty much begs Hot Rod to kill him, and then he just kinda kills himself in the end. That's pretty fucking dark for a cartoon watched by 5 year old boys.
And that's not even mentioning how depressed Rodimus seems at having to take on the responsibility of being a Prime, or his suicidal tendenceys and his morbid jokes. Just look how happy he was to hand the Matrix back to Optimus when they thought he'd come back, and how much more happy he was once he'd turned back into Hot Rod.

And I still can't draw robots. Probably scrap this later.
