Description
This is one of my favorite drawings I've finished in a while. I had a lot of fun working on this one. I wanted to challenge myself with this piece by drawing smoke, fire, and burning debris. I really wanted to capture the movement of the fire and smoke and that's something that can be really difficult to convey without color. This drawing gave me a chance to experiment with different inking techniques to create the texture and environment I wanted.

I like filling an entire page with tiny thumbnails and roughs of characters in dynamic poses as a warm-up and that's how this drawing started. Sometimes I'll go back through those pages of tiny rough sketches and I'll take one that I like (in this case, the Hulk), and enlarge it, then work it into an actual drawing. I decided to throw Wolverine into the mix and then worked in the smoke and the buildings afterward.

I'm really happy with the results, and more importantly, I learned a lot in the process. Every drawing is an opportunity to get better.
