Working on another Inklings related t-shirt design. As (I think) I mentioned, I’m taking the three headers I created for each section of the book and turning them into shirts. There will be black and white versions (as they appear in the book) as well as some (I hope) spiffy full-colored variants to choose from. This one is proving particularly tedious, but as I‘m figuring things out, I’m starting to pick up speed. It’s pretty fun, and I’m employing a few different work flow changes that might be applicable to some comic work. The most interesting one so far is adding color to the line work. It’s something I’ve done a lot before, but the process can be time consuming, even when using clipped layers (so the new, colored “ink” only applies to the line work on the underlying layer). If I take the extra care to create my flats layer, and choose flat colors that are close to what the final rendered colors will be, then I can just duplicate that layer, place it above my line art, and lower the opacity. No more noodling around painting the individual lines.
