Description
There's this one moment at the end of this movie, when toothless is helping hiccup hobble to the door and then his busted tail sweeps into frame...The first time I saw it, my reaction to the movie went from "this is the best thing that's ever happened to me" to "this is the best thing that's ever happened to animation."
There were several moments of really skillful bringing-it-back-around in the movie, but that one was by FAR my favourite.
Anyway derp derp more fanart- this time with dragon included!

I just saw the movie for the first time tonight (I'd been reminded to rent it after seeing all your great fanart!), and, yeah, that last scene got pretty much the same reaction from me. I just don't even have words for how in love I am with the movie and characters.
Anyway. Love the scratchy, rough inks in this. They go well with the mood.

that part of the movie made me go, oh geez. this is brilliant. i had loved everything about the movie up to that point- especially the dynamics between hiccup and his father. but that part was truly incredible. and usually i see those things coming.
i never saw that one coming.

I absolutely love that scene and it's one of the main reasons why I love that movie. Aside from Toothless being ridiculously cute, the fact that the makers didn't shy away from showing a much more realistic side of consequence makes HTTYD rank way up there for me. More up there than almost all the animation produced since the 90s.

I whole-heartedly share your love and appreciation for HTTYD. Everything comes 'round in this movie, everything fits, nothing is left without an extra added detail. I truly believe it is of the highest pier of animation in both visual and story-telling fields! The more I watch it, the more I see the little points and how everything adds up! Things I didn't notice the first (few) times. As such, there's nothing wrong with feeling so inspired and changed from a movie. It does the same for me; I can't get over it. And I'm so glad for your fanart! You really bring the mood of the movie into it-- it FEELS like it, so kudos to you :3

I pretty much had the same reaction to that moment in the movie, it made me tear up. There's so many good little subtleties in this movie and each one makes it that much better. Gorgeous picture, I really envy your color schemes.

I can see this getting a DD.
It's moments like that in the movie that actually made me feel really disappointed by the film... like, the scenes with Hiccup and Toothless were ALL magical.... OSCAR MAGICAL. But every thing else... every other character... just felt like the typical Dreamworks fare. Nothing special. I felt as if someone came up with the idea for the best movie ever... then said, "SYKE! Fooled ya!"

Totally on the exact same wavelength with you there... it's exactly what i'd been thinking when that tail just whipped right around.
Honestly, when i saw his leg, that was the first thing that popped into my head: "Aww! They match!"
The realization of "Oh man... they many never be able to fly together again..." never hit me, because knowing hiccup, i knew he'd find some way to make it work.
In our day and age, Hiccup would be considered an absolute genius prodigy, i swear.

Yes. You are wonderful. That scene was incredible, and the tail-sweeping on screen was subtle but everyone got it. And of course, the first time I saw it I cried from here on through sometime in the credits.

That and the scene where Hiccup is attaching Toothless' new tail and Toothless spreads his wings and it sorta looks like they're sprouting from Hiccup's back.

I usually think Dreamworks makes horrible movies.
But they made this.
And then all was forgiven.

Oh gosh, this is so beautiful. The details, the symbolism, everything... I love how the light seems to be radiating from Hiccup's prosthetic. This movie is fantastic, and your art is as well!
