A fav from back in the day. The Dark Phoenix saga, along with the five year build up, was simply the greatest bit of comic story tellin I’ve read or seen. The whole reason I love ‘em.

Phoenix was just another brilliant design from Dave Cockrum. Especially loved the way Byrne and Austin did her. I remember one panel , tho’ not what issue, she was flying up and the text was something about her power bein a song within her. Wonderful panel and she looked bitchin. So I tried to go that route with her, using my memory of the panel instead of looking it up to reference it.
Taking a break from my book to finish up my X-men folder. Great childhood memories of those stories and the art. Byrne, Cockrum, Austin…wonderful story tellers. Here’s my salute to ‘em.
