the soft blur in the foreground of the water is beautiful, it looks like a painting, this is really beautiful, and its exposure is just perfect, the tones and sky are breathtaking

You make me so jealous with your pictures. Unbelievalble! Anyways, i have the 17-85 lens at the moment and i'm not really happy with it. U use the 17-40 and would this be a good upgrade? I have the canon 40D, thanks.

I like my 17-40, but there are some bad ones out there( I see them on my workshops once in a while). Depends on actuall lens.

Why are the same type of lenses all different. : So i have the the chance that my 17-40 won't work that good. Maybe it depends on your camera? I don't know...

It has nothing to do with camera. It has everything to do with Canon (and NIkon and etc.) are not able to produce all of their lenses with same top notch quality. The 17-40 from Canon varies from excellent to average, I have even seen poor pieces on my workshops. It's been like this for years. Just becouse it is a same lens doesn't mean it will produce similar results.

Heard about that too. I really have to get some other 17-40L to compare it with mine. Just to make sure, it's as sharp as it can be. Too bad a "L" lens has such variations.
