Although actually, if you pay close attention, Elsa never said she DIDN'T want to build a snowman to Anna.
When Anna first asked her, she said "Go away, Anna", so Anna left. Later on, Elsa never even bothered to answer the question again. She didn't say she didn't want to, she just told Anna to leave...and of course she wanted to build a snowman!

Oh, I know. Don't worry. I just thought I'd make it a little more light-hearted is all
See, if I thought about how much Elsa actually DID want to build a snowman, it would've made me cry...

But that's something I love about her. It isn't hypocritical at all. See, she never said "no" to Anna, Anna was met with silence (and one, "go away") which was taken as no. But then, the first thing Elsa did when she decided to Let it go, was to build a snowman. And this snowman, Olaf, is a complete echo of her childhood and of the joyful emotions and love associated with this time. Olaf was first created in the last moment of joy Elsa had (in her childhood, with Anna), and likewise, was recreated the first time she had felt so much joy as an adult. Not to mention, his first action was to seek out Anna, and then lead her to Elsa, echoing Elsa's desire for Anna and her love. Olaf's characteristics; innocent, joyful, goofy, outgoing, creative, naive, kindhearted, affectionate, embody Elsa's life as a child and echo her emotions when being free from fear of persecution, when she can finally be herself. We see these traits leak out of her, even when she's hiding her personality. Furthermore, even Olaf's song, Summer, parallels Elsa's desire to know about something she's never really known, and is impossible for her to achieve. While Olaf desires to experience summer and feel heat, Elsa desires to experience freedom and feel love. While each can touch it briefly (Elsa: let it go :: Olaf: fire in the fireplace) it would be impossible for them to actually achieve this. But then, the impossible does happen. When Elsa finally secures her love and freedom, Olaf is likewise able to do the impossible and experience summer. The fandom keeps saying 'Oh they should have a reprise where Elsa sings "Yes, I want to build a snowman", but she did, with Olaf.
Likewise, Marshmallow was created to embody Elsa's fear (which holds crushing size and strength over Olaf, who represents joy) and her need to push people away (Marshmallow literally throws Anna out of the palace and yells "leave me alone" and "Stay away"). He fights off everyone, keeping them away, and becomes "scarier" when antagonised and hurt (much like how Elsa involuntarily lashing out when Anna kept questioning the reason for her immense sacrifice, struck her with her powers when faced with the fact she would never be free, and creating an extremely violent storm when she's been sentenced to death). But likewise, the big, scary, snowman has a cute name, Marshmallow, which echoes how despite Elsa's lashing out, she's still kind and good intentioned.
Marshmallow and Olaf each embody traits of Elsa's personality, based on when they were created.

Woooow, this is beautiful. I'd never thought about it like this. The Marshmallow/Olaf comparison is one of those wonderful subtle ideas that I'd never have noticed.
Please don't ever stop being enthusiastic. This is stunning

Thank you so much, I'm glad you appreciated this! (Also, just to be clear, I started out with "it isn't Elsa being hypocritical' beneath not because I thought that you thought that, but because a comment below had said Elsa was hypocritical for building Olaf, and it got me thinking about this )
Thank you, and keep up the great art!
