Soviets did tend to be very pragmatic in their designs and methods.
The Katyusha rocket launcher (Stalin's organ) is my favourite "quantity has a quality all of its own" ... especially the noise of it firing.

Oh yes.
The Battle of Seelow Heights
9000 guns and rockets in a little over 18 mile wide front.
Averages out to a gun every 12 feet or so.
It was figured they fired over 500,000 rounds in about 30 minutes.
The only thing the Germans by now knew this tactic pulling back beyond range then reoccupying positions when the Soviet ground forces attacked.
In the end Seelow fell but that barrage had to have been awesome.
They heaviest bombardment I ever witnessed was in Laos in 1972 when a large group of trucks and infantry were spotted on the HoChiMinh. They were unaware a cell of 3 fully loaded B52s were just coming into the area. Our spotter team called it in and they unloaded everything. We were about a mile off. The concussion and blast waves just rattled you to the bone. Afterwards we went to evaluate. Nothing left but bits and pieces barely recognizable as machinery or human.
One B52 packed as much firepower as the entire 8th Bomber command from WW2.
Those poor bastards got hit by three.

Scary crazy.
Poor bastards never had a chance.
Most very reduced to pieces if not plain vaporized.
