So important in gym shots that the model looks oblivious to the camera. If they look like they are posing the shot feels very cheap. In this shot Penny seems totally focassed on the dumbell and as such looks very authentic. Think that many people have inconsistency of muscle tone. Penny has more tone in her abs than most females. We all tend to hold more weight in some areas of our bodies than others.

Not necessarily. Have used flash at times and it can look natural. However natural light does seem to be the most consistently superior.
