Simpsons World from the latest Treehouse of Horrors is another creative way of having multiple versions of characters exist in one place with self-awareness.
That's why I think this should be tackled in a House of Mouse story where the Disney characters become aware that they're not real, just stuck in a loop and even question why the villains are alive in the show when they were killed in their own films, and why Simba and Nala are sometimes kids but other times they're adults. They all realize that the House of Mouse is the most cherished Mickey show and crossover show by animation fans (mostly ones who bash on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse just for it being a preschool show) but look back and find most of the show's moments mediocre, and rather than continuing to be slaves to the viewers, they revolt and escape their fan-preferred cycle of flanderized Disney characters.
