Redthistle is the daughter of Fireclan warrior Applesnap and Featherclan warrior Ravenpelt. As a young kit, she was taken from Fireclan to join her father in Featherclan. However, Ravenpelt wanted nothing to do with her. Despite this, Redkit thrived under the care of Birdwhisker and Constantine. When she was six moons old, Redpaw was apprenticed to Laurelshine. It turned out to be a good match, and by the time she earned her warrior name, Redthistle was a skilled hunter and fighter.

As a young warrior, Redthistle grew close to Smokesnap. She was thrilled when she found out she was expecting kits, but when she told Smokesnap, he freaked out, saying he wanted pure Featherclan kits. Heartbroken, Redthistle ran away from camp in the middle of a snowstorm, and ended up having her kits under a fallen tree. Two of them were stillborn, but the third kit, Sunkit survived. Constantine found the pair a half moon later, and stayed with them until Sunkit was strong enough to walk back to the clan. Upon returning, Redthistle found that Smokesnap had taken a new mate, Snailshell. However, her feelings for him had faded, so she raised Sunkit with Constantine's help.

After Sunbeam became a warrior, Redthistle started spending time with the rogue Lucifer. He didn't judge her for her half clan blood, and she found herself falling in love with him. The pair had their first son, Blizzardkit soon after. When Lucifer became clan leader and took the name Morningstar, he chose Redthistle as his deputy, despite her not having an apprentice. Redthistle worked hard to prove herself worthy of the position, but she was aware that not all of her clanmates were pleased with Morningstar's decision

While serving as deputy, Redthistle had her final litter of kits: Sablekit, Galekit, and Shardkit. The senior warriors took over the deputy duties while she nursed them, and once they were apprenticed she returned to her duties. She got her first apprentice, Frostpaw a few moons later, who went on to become Frostpeak.

Redthistle is a kind heart she-cat with a fiery streak, and who has worked hard to prove herself to her adopted clan.
