Description POV: You die and go to the shadowfell and this is your boss.

My campaign's version of the Raven Queen, the most prolific of the modern D&D death gods. Her lore is pretty scattered and she's made a good home in that hot goth mom aesthetic. So I decided to shirk all that elf mage goth queen aesthetic and made her into a giant raven.

In my D&D setting (called Pliving, cause people live there), RQ is a relatively young god. These tend to take on more beastial and abstract appearances, in order to better appeal to the masses and gain more followers. She usurped the last death god (who kind of sucked) about 400 years ago. The Raven Queen doesn't control death, she's more like a supervisor. Her crown flashes with each new soul that crosses into the Shadowfell (which takes a role more akin to a greek Underworld than just a bad vibes goth city here). Most of these souls cross through without issue and peacefully arrive into whatever afterlife fits them best thanks to psychopomps, which typically take the form of corvids or black dogs. RQ intrinsically knows everyone who has ever died, but the living are lost to her. She speaks in this very monotone fashion (a lot of her general vibe was inspired by Death from the Discworld novels).

Anyway I love RQ a lot. She is the deadpan manager to a crazy goth deathrealm. She absolutely hates undead and will personally seek out and destroy them with a vengeance. Under her employ are the Shadar-Kai (instead of being just elves they are a cultural umbrella encompassing most mortal peoples living in the Shadowfell) and lost souls (those unable to cross over to the afterlife for whatever reason, who realize they are dead. They are characterized by having white pupiless eyes. Most lost souls don't realize they are dead/ in the Shadowfell and so continue toiling away at meaningless plain lives), who serve as her eyes and ears among the shifting weirdness of the grey Shadowfell. RQ works alongside Amaunthator, who's a long-dead god of time/order and in charge of moderating lifespans (in a huge hall of hourglasses).

My Dawnlands crew will be making their way to the Shadowfell shortly, as they answer the summons of RQ (who technically put out the request for Amaunthator's sake). I've been waiting for this meeting for years and its exciting that we are almost there!!
