Description Lake "Möhne" dam today.

On the night to 17. May 1943, the night after Mother's Day, 18 british Lancester bombers attacked different dams in west Germany with special constructed 3,5t bombs. - But their main focus was the Moehnesee dam.

When the dam finally broke down 120 millions(!) cubic meter water destroyed everything that was in it's way for kilometers. In this night 1500 people lost their lives.

An at that time 17 year old paratrooper remembers the catastrophy very well. Eventhough he still lives near the lake he says that he still can hear the drowning people from that night crying for help . The next day he should have been draft into the german Airforce. - His sleeplessness let him hear the british airplanes and rescued his and his mother's live.

The day is still known as the "Lake Möhne Catastrophy" in Germany. The british squadron is still popular as "Dambusters" and has it's owne memorial in the UK.
