So basically in this AU Chara's plan to save the monsters had backfired completely differently then in Undertale. When Asriel refused to get on with the plan before Chara had the idea to begin with, Chara decides to take matters into their own hands. They proceeded to take Asriel's soul (despite going against it morally) and crosses the barrier to get six more souls. However, upon crossing the barrier, there are six other kids already there. Chara takes this opportunity to steal their souls, but Asriel takes control, probably even possesses, Chara. This causes the two of them to fight over control of the vessel, and it results in accidentally knocking the six other kids into the mountain. Toriel and Asgore take in the kids as their own, while also unaware of what Chara had done. As Chara continues to keep the murder of Asriel secret, putting it off as, "He probably got lost in Waterfall." or "Maybe Asriel just went missing. You probably should send the Royal Guard to find him." But when Frisk falls down, and slowly learns the story of what had actually happened to Asriel from what some witnesses told, which kept secret to it as well-- and Chara wasn't aware there even was any witnesses, Frisk is faced with the decision to either continue to keep it a secret, or let all hell break loose by telling the controversial truth.
