"Great job Mathew, you sure show them." Reply Eddy patting my back. It was another good job for the PRT me and my partner did today. But like another other Elite within out base, we did what our job and we did it well.
"Yeah, another job done." I say to him. The transformie now safely in the hands of the bureaucrats in which they will now give him a good education.
"Well, I'm going to hit the hay, I'll see you tomorrow Land Shark." Says my Grumpig partner before he heads his own way. Maybe taken a small nap wouldn’t kill me. It’s been a long day on the job. I did have to not only track a transformie but a extinctionist as well. At least it’s two job well done if I count the capture of the pokéxinction as another one.
With a tiresome day I unlock my door and arrive at my own personal room. It’s not much, it only as the basic needs and is pretty messy. But right now all I care for is my bed. I jump on it and close my eyes for a nap.
My phone rings before I get a chance to close my eyes.
“Hello, Elite Mathew speaking.” I say still in my bed.
"Mathew, Commander Farsight wants to see you." Sounds like the receptionist. Always the one calling when someone from high command instead of themselves.
"Already? I’ve just finish a mission today.”
“He ask for you personally.” That usually means that he wants something from me. Wonderful.
“Fine, I’ll be on my way.” And I was hoping for a good nap.
I get up and forcefully drag myself toward the halls again instead of having a good nap. Although
Walking towards the command office I pass by most of the logistic offices and go ahead toward the Commander office. Upon there, the door open itself and I get grated by the receptionist smiling at with her full carnivine teethes.
“Greetings, the commander is waiting for you.” She says in a cheerful tone.
“Thank you.” I made my way behind her desk and slowly open the door of the commander.
"You wanted to see me sir?" I say opening the door. It was cold in his room, not quite like a frisor cold but colder then I would like it. Maybe it’s because I’m part dragon that I dislike even the slight of cold. Our commander in chief was writing down on his computer. A computer adjusted for his Empeloen hands. Taking his eyes off his screen he looks at me making sign for me to enter.
"Yes, please have a seat." He said waving me to a chair. Without a moment wasted, I take the chair and sit on it.
"First thing first I wanted to congratulate you on your mission. You even managed to bring the car back. It will help us uncovering excinonist tech."
"Just doing my job sir."
"Of course, but now I have to ask you for something else." I wouldn’t think otherwise form him.
"What is it sir?"
"Our night guard for the prisoners have been put on suspension and we need you to replace him, at least until we can get another one of the recruits take the job." He wants me to do guard duty? Seriously?
"Why not have the recruits take the job right now? It's not like they are doing anything of importance anyway."
"Well most of them are still doing their basic training as you know."
"I wouldn't call what they are doing basic training. More like them trying to hit each other as hard as they can while bragging about it then they do it." The commander looks at me with a slight touch of irritation.
"Let's not get into this again. I know about your opinion on the matter and I know that we should be using our Elites better the night guards but right now we need you to do this for us Matthew."
"Very well sir, I'll do this." It’s not like I have much of a choice in this matter.
"Perfect. Unfortunately your shift will start tonight. Get some rest." Of course I start tonight.
"Goodbye sir." I say to him before I leave my chair.
"And Matthew, I'll make this worth your time, I promise." I exit the room and manage to retain my rage of the situation. Guard duty. I have to do guard duty? I have not been in the PRT for three years to just get stuck doing basic jobs. And it’s not like the new recruits are doing anything. Most of them train by hitting eachother in the face. They do not learn discipline or anything that isn’t combat related. It’s a disgrace to the pokéuman.
Calm down Mathew. It may not be as bad as I think. I have been working with recon missions and recuse mission for a long time now. Maybe I just need something like this. Something easier and more relax then my other jobs. May as well try to get some sleep over this. I don’t want to come late for it either. At least pretend that I care about low level job. Everyone as to do their part after all, I just wish more of us would do our part.
“Is everything alright? You are just standing there?” Said the receptionist cutting my train of thought.
“Yes sorry. I’ll be on my way.” I get on my way before she suspects anything. Better to keep my displease of this to myself. The commander is not call Farsight for nothing after all. When he is not happy it can get bad for everyone involve. Although I take advantage of what little time I have left and crash on my bed. It give me want I needed to work another shift. Soon the alarm rings once more and I am force to drag myself to my new line of work. Hopefully i won't need to stay there longer then i need to. Moving down the hall i see everyone else getting ready to finish their own jobs, it's just me that is getting out of my way to work it seems.
Arriving at the prison station. Don’t think I have ever been here before. Hopefully this will be simple enough. I rather not that everything starts to go wrong the day I enter this job. Opening the door I am greeted to a very basic in design room. The white wall surrounding the room in an almost perfect squad. An individual hallway in a 90 degrees angle form the door for which all of the prison cells remain in parallel of each other. Within the small room in front is a terminal, most likely control the cells and everything else about the prison. Although to my surprise someone is already here, someone that I know very well.
“Eddy? Why are you here?” I say to him as the Grumpig look at me tired. I don’t think he ever got a chance to sleep.
“Right after our mission I get assign to day guard. And from what I can see it seems both the previous guards didn’t do that much of a good job.”
“Do you even know what the rookies even did?”
“Something about trashing the training room because of reasons. I don’t know it’s just stupid rookies being stupid like always. “
“It will just last a week right?”
“Hopefully. The terminal will tell you if anything is wrong and contact security if anything is out of your control. Although for garchomp like yourself this should be a piece of cake.”
“This sound easier than I first thought.”
“Yes and somehow the recruits still failed at it. I’ll see you later I need to sleep.”
“Night.” He slowly drag himself out of the room leaving a cramped. Only the clock seem to be making noise. Already exhausted I sit down next to the terminal. Part of me wants to know where is here. I open up the terminal program, very basic and very minimalist. It only shows me one guy in the cells today. I wonder who it is? It only gives a number for the prisoner. I slowly get up like rocks are attack to my arms and slowly drag myself around the cells. All of the identical from one another. All of them consisted of a bed, a small toilet and even a table with a single chair. All of the cells consisted of bars of energy resistant steel, something even the strongest o pokéuman would be hard press to break. Almost roomy I would say for a prisoner. Then again there is no point in putting them in awful condition just because they are the enemy, even for a pokéxinction.
The cell in where the prisoner is like all the others with a single human inside, on his bed but not yet sleeping. However I seem to recognize him. Wait, it’s the agent I capture earlier today. He’s the only here. I’m not sure if I should be honored that I am the only one that captured someone or insulted that no one else have done the same.
“Well I didn’t expect this.” Starts the human staring at me. “I did not expect the same Garchomp to be the one guarding me.”
"Lack of manpower more than anything else." He starts to laugh, although quietly.
"What's so funny?" I ask him as he gets up from his bed
"I just find it funny that you guys call yourself the good guys yet can't seem to find enough people to join your cause."
"It's not the influx of recruits that is the problem. It's capable recruits that's the problem." He continues to laugh.
"I wish I found it as funny as you do." I say to him keeping a stiff tone of voice.
"Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. It’s just funny to me.” He takes a sit on his chair still looking at me.
"Didn't know you care about us pokeumans feelings."
"Mostly because you are the first one in this base to have not threatening me in some way shape or form. It’s nice to be somewhat treated like a human being.” We remain silent for a moment, him simply taping his figures on the table.
"But for the record, I do not hate your kind, not at all. My partner is a Tyranitar after all." He says breaking the silent.
"Probably brainwash to do as you order him."
"Not at all. We don't brainwash unless someone becomes a danger to those around them. It's been a while since we had to do something like that. But my partner was as free as you and me. Well mostly you since I'm stuck here." He’s claiming that they don’t brainwash their pokéumans. He could be lying to me. Then again what would be gain form lying right now. But now that I think about it, I have not fought many brainwash pokéuman. Most of the enemy where not brainwash. Always though that was weird. Maybe there is some truth to what he is saying.
"I find it a bit hard to believe what you are saying." I say to him, not fully trusting in what he is telling me.
"But I am telling the truth. I cared for him as much as he cared for me. And not only good coworkers but good friends as well." A human is a good friend with a pokéuman. That is something I don’t hear every day.
"So what? You are telling me that pokéumans like me join your side willingly?”
“For the most part. I will be honest that some of pokéxinction are glory seekers more then anything else but most of the time it’s for a noble cause.” Already a mental picture of the rookies within out base when he said the work glory seekers. It seems that they are everywhere. But for a noble cause. That sounds a bit fishy.
“And what would that noble goal be then?”
“Security over freedom. The right to be safe over the right for everyone to do what they want to do. The opposite if what you PRT type are fighting for.” The opposite of what we are fighting for?
"So that give you the right to capture us like a bunch of animals."
"I can understand why you would see it that way. On the outside all we do is capture children and attack you guys but it's not what we are all about. You yourself have to capture transformers just like we do. It's not a moral job, but it needs to be done. It's not like we keep them in cage either. From our report you have school within those base. Trying to keep a normal life for the young ones. We aren't that different either. We do the same thing. In many ways we are the same organization if it wasn't for one important fact."
"Which is?"
"Security and freedom. The pokéumans want to remain free from all persecution and be free to do what they want and pokéxinction wants to limit this so we can control the incredible power you kind hold. Such a powerful force that I sometimes wonder why you guys are even worry when you are the single most powerful species on our planet."
"We are currently in the middle of underground base hiding from our enemies. Our level of power isn't as grand as you would want to think it is."
"I guess so. But here is the thing. Someone like my partner, a tyranitar, could easily destroy a city like one of those old Godzilla movies. Other then our own weapons or other pokéumans, he would be unstoppable. Yet he understand that too. He knows that just one could bring the force of a natural disaster never mind thousand of them. That is why we do what we do, to limit such power and keep the rest of the population safe."
"Safety, that is what you are going with?"
"For the most part yes. That is what we fight for." That is a big pill he is trying to make my shallow.
“I better get going.” I say to him making my way out of the hallway.
“Wait!” He screams throughout the bars. “I know it’s hard for you to believe but I’m telling you the truth.”
“And how am I supposed to believe you?”
“You took my phone after you capture me. On there I have a bunch of photos of myself and my partner. At least took at them so that you know that I’m not lying. Even if it’s only the part about my partner.”
The rest of the night was quiet. We didn’t say a word to each other. Part of me wanted to continue to talk to him, even if it was just to pass the time. This was an easy job yes but also a boring one. But within a few hours morning came and Eddy open the door behind me.
“Good morning Mathew.”
“Morning.” I say to him before yalning.
“I’m not going to distract you buddy you need some rest.” He taps on my shoulders signaling me to get into bed.
“Have a good sleep.” Patickly draging myself back to my own room with the complete lack of sleep I had today. I’ve been awake for almost 20 hours straight. However I still manage to make it to my room and slam myself onto my bed.
Unfortunately my sleep was a shallow one. I can’t shake off what he said to me. Why would he be lying to me like that? He’s not going to get anything out of this. But what if he is telling me the truth? Would that mean that what the commander and the rest of the PRT been telling me about pokéxinction simply be wrong. Just a bunch of propaganda. I mean aren’t they trying to control us like they did before the Great War.
I open my eyes and see that it’s still hours before my sift. I try to fall back asleep but to no avail. This is bordering me greatly. I need to find an answer to this. He told me about his phone. That should mean that the labs have hold of it. Usually they are open about us Elites at the very least see the conflicted gadgets. That is my best bet right now.
The labs are always full of machine and pokéuman running around the place. Someone is always doing something in there. Although a lot of the scientist we have like to wear the stereotypical white lab coat for no other reason than because they can.
“Excuse me.” I ask around the place. I quickly get the attention of the meowth in a lab coat.
"I just want to check for something." I ask the meowth
"What do you need?"
"The phone of the pokéxinction prisoner."
"Oh that thing. We still haven't finish with that. Although it doesn't look like he kept anything important in there."
"Well can I at least look at photos. I think I may be on to something."
"Very well. But I will warn you that we found nothing of interests with the photos."
"Still, I want to see them." He back into the chaos that is the lab almost jumps around just to simply get around the place. But thankfully he comes back with a memory disk.
“Here is a copy of it. You can keep it, it has no use to us.” He gives it to me.
“Thank you.” I leave the room and promptly return to my living corners. I do not hesitant and download the files upon the memory disk into my personal computer.
There they were, his picture. All intact. As skimming through them a certain theme arise. Most if not all were taken of himself with his partner, the tyranitar or of what look like to be a party. Maybe a business party. Would explain why his partner is not wearing a humanizing ring. They all seem to be having fun it seems. Cocktail and all. But looking through them, looking at the tyranitar over and over again, I do not see his eyes ever being gray even once. It’s a shade of blue. Does this mean that the pokéxinction we jailed has been telling me the truth? I find it hard to believe this, but if I truly did not then I wouldn’t have been searching for those pictures in the first place. Part of me does wander of what happens on the other side, and right now it seems that pokéxinction is not what I first though it was. But if he is telling me the truth, then that means that someone else isn’t. Do the commander even know about the other side or is he lying to us. Could be a tactic to keep moral high. Still, I am quickly coming to a realization that this is not what I sign up for. I join the PRT do to the right thing, to save pokéumans and humanity from pokéxinciton and their sinister plans of world domination. But if they are just another side of the coin then are we doing what is right. Could it be that we were in fact doing this for our own selfish demands. We seem to be for too scared of humans were I sometime consider if we can ever go back to normal society. Sure some do after they graduate but most don’t. They either join the PRT or go to a village. The more I think about it the more I question my position in this conflict.
