CBT's Mascot Contest [link]

The contest started on November 12 2010, and the deadline is November 30 2010.

This is Applo, a half dragon and half human in a school uniform sort of style for a mascot. In his left arm is his baby brother or sister, Mackey. Applo is a curious, diligent, and righteous character that really loves his family, but has to become independent knowing that it was the only way to survive as he entered adulthood. He is somewhat unknowledgable about human technology and advancement in history, but he does understand emotions and values. Other than that he can be seen as socially awkward, and gets nervous easily.

I originally wanted him to be a knight, but that idea didn't work out. Before this I was thinking about my idea for game art and design scholarship which involved dragons, but also my general like for them. So along the lines or something, I conjured up what Applo is now. I also got some ideas from CBT's logo, and their testimonials. Although I could had done so much more research to develop a further backstory about Applo and Mackey.

Basically, in Applo's past he was just a dragon who enjoyed being bathe in riches due to his family's wealth. His family guarded their treasure until death, which the next heir to protect it would be selected. It had been intended that Applo would inherit the job to do that, but all of this had changed when his mother got into conflict with some humans. These humans wanted to get their hands on his family's fortune, but his mother wouldn't them. She managed to get rid of them through fear, but had suffered much damage and poison that it took her life away. Mackey had been recently born, but had yet to hatch. And with his father so focused on being the guardian of their treasure, Applo decided to take Mackey with him to somewhere far away and isolated from human contact after crying for days after his mother had passed away. They managed to come across an academy known as CBT College, where Applo got in contact with the principal there. The Headmaster listened to Applo's story, and gave him a potion. Being an alchemist, he figured that Applo would need it in order to fit in better and cover up his identity as a dragon. However, there were some side effects and instead of changing into a human, Applo became part dragon, part human. No matter, Applo decided to stay at CBT College to learn further about humans, their technology, their knowledge, their beliefs and values. He had a hard time adjusting, and fitting in with the rest of the humans, but appeared to have some ease with the international students there. As he struggles in his studies, he exceeds in physical acitivity, and certain parts of history. Applo also takes care of Mackey, thinking fondly about what kind of a dragon his sister or brother would grow up to be. One of Applo's goals is to be part of the change so dragons would be treated equally as humans, and lessen the slaughter of them for the sake of wealth.

I have yet to draw Applo's dragon form, as it has been giving me some difficulty since I want to draw it cutesy. Maybe I should draw a more serious form, however I have never been that great in drawing animals in general though.

So what do you guys think? Cute character no?
