As part of his job as the new principle, Noah was doing observations in the various classrooms for the week. It wasn’t for any nefarious reason, he just had to get an idea of how his staff handled the students so he could understand their strengths and weaknesses. When he sat in on Jaelyn’s class during second period, he was in for a sight. He’d never seen a teacher not only match, but exceed the kid’s energy before. The collie woman was insane, but in the best way. She was all over the classroom, corralling even the most inattentive children and keeping their minds on their work. Whenever their attention slipped, she snapped it back up with a stern but kind word, rooting them back in the lesson.
The kids loved her. She had them laughing, puzzling things out, and most importantly, eager to learn. It was almost a disappointment when they were sent outside for recess. As the last of the children filtered through the door, she pulled it shut, leaving just the two of them alone in the room. Noah expected to see her deflate, all the manic energy dissipate in a moment of recovery, as all adults had to do after handling a class of thirty.
Instead, she just perched on a desk across from him, the wild look in her eye only growing.
“Well, we have fifteen minutes until your next observation,” she said coolly. “Anything else you’d like to see?”
