Austerity was a kind loyal and strong engine when World War II was happening on sodor he handled troop trains and the equipment the british army needed him to carry and until he had an accident with a nazi train that was lurking in england trying to destroy the allied forces the accident austerity caused was a good thing for the British army but austerity was killed in the collision his smoke box was crushed like an accordion and the Nazi engine was also killed.

sir stephen topham hatt's father charles hatt mourned the loss of his brave war engine and austerity was scrapped at killdane scrapyard.

now austerity wanders the tracks looking for any villain or engine to scare but deep down he cares about his friends he had back in the war
