Except in Zelda 1 and 2 they didn't exist as bottled entities.  Just medicine existed that had to be taken in the heat of things.

I just found it a funny thought to say though since I never have actually gone through fairies in a modern zelda.  They just get stuck there and stay foooorever.  The bottle fairy brigade.
