Description These are the 3!, of iUniverse...

3! are a race of small, quick sophonts from Galaxy135. Their species originated from the planet 369; a small world orbiting a somewhat larger terrestrial. Although their postision of rank in their home galaxy is somewhat disappointing to them, they have proven to be more tolerant than they first appeared.
The average baseline 3! stands about 2.7 feet high. Evolved from hexalateraly symetrical starfish-like creatures, they are now tetrapods. Four limbs have become ambulatory organs, while the other two have assumed postions as head and tail. The cephalon is divided into two units. The lower unit serves as a beak-like mouth. This beak is equiped with sensitive electroreceptors, useful tools in locating hidden prey, or in moden times, inspecting their own technology. The upper unit contains a high-functioning ganglia, paired nostrils, and highly developed hems. Heming is a sense which incoorporates electromagnetism as sound. The 3! have no eyes or ears. Thir entire bodies are also extreamly sensitive to vibrations, especially their hands and feet. The hands and feet of 3! are really quite interesting themselves. 3! possess ball-socket joints at the wrists and ankles. This allows their hands and feet to spin in indefinite circles. The forearms of 3! also serve specialized fnctions. Large, poisonous quills (now usually clipped in modern society) provide protection. There is also a row of enzyme-producing glands which have an affect on their skin. The creamy substance drys their skin into a watertight covering. 3! are amphibious beings withnaturally moist skin. They are born as totally aquatic larvae with jointed, paddle-like fins. 3! are warm-blooded entities with active habits. They are excellent swimmers and can move quikly on land by hopping. Their primary method of movement includes running across the surface of water with very rapid spin-cycles of their feet, and running motions of their legs. Creatures who constructed dams and various specialized structures upon the surface in prehistory, their modern architecture is always diluted in water. They also still preffer live prey, as it appeals to their electical sense. 3! communicate trough vibrational body langage, and through EMPs sent through a battery-like brain.
Due to their method of communication, their technology is not so advanced in electronics. Nevertheless, they are highly skilled in optics, ceramics, and intricate machines powered by seft-regulating systems or chemicals. Virtually all their thought-processes are derived from what humans would call math. Thier mathematical minds may have originated from inbuilt reflexes of movements and their need to construct proper homes and detect food. Every aspect of their lives is governed by some equation, formula, theorem, or system designed to eventually sum to perfection. Each individual 3! has his or her own unique perspective and interpretation of some form of 'wierd math,' (called so because humans fail to see how many of their systems are related to mathematics).
An ignorant 3! would call any speciesthat does not possess such highly developed senses of math inferior. Many 3! were ignorant ten, at the dawn of the nexxus. 3! happen to share their home galaxy with one other sophont race, the nthd'iy. Nthd'iy are an ammonia-based race whose cognitive abilities are, to put it lightly, not one of their most outstanding atributes. The average nthd'iy can barely understand addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. And yet, as they had been a stable and peaceful spaecies for millions of years, they were far superior to the 3! at first contact with the nexxus. The nthd'iy's especially peaceful and accepting ways made them the first of the two races to be quallified as a liberated race, while the 3!, having only advanced to a single global civilization at the arrival of the nexxus, were not deemed ready to interact with other sophonts for many years. Many nthd'iy were even assigned as overseers of 3! worlds. The neosapiens eventually proved a theorem to convince the 3! of their needed friendship with nthd'iy, as well as other mathematically-challenged sophonts. Most 3! today feel a respectful/rueful awe towards their closesed neighbors.

Why haven't we seen the Nthd'iy yet? They sound like interesting folks.

Also regarding the Nthd'iy, it is an interesting and highly plausible idea that aliens might not develop certain major concepts that we humans take for granted, like maths, but aren't strictly necessary for creating a viable culture/society of intelligent beings, to anywhere near the extent that we did. Expanding on that is the idea that they might develop fields or studies that are barely conceivable at all to us, but are just as vital to them as mathematics is to us. I don't think either idea has ever been much explored in science fiction, which is a shame, because it deserves to be. Also, I love the 3! with their weird maths and the idea that they consider themselves to be somehow equivalent to 3 is frankly adorable.

Is the name 3! supposed to be the exclamation of 3 or is it supposed to be three factorial?

I have no idea. The significance of the exclaimation point originates from 3! mathematics humans find incomprehensible.

Nice, as usual.
I like the limb design and the frilled lizard tail.
But I wonder how there can be any blood vessel and neural connection between the hands/feet and the rest of the body if the feet spin like propellers.
And is the 3!-name how their names should be pronounced or did the 3! creatures came up with the mathematical conclusion to call themselves just that number?

Thank you, as usual. (smile)

I thought about that too. I imagine a spring-like, coiled, muscular chord at the 'wrists' and 'ankles' of the 3!. Perhaps derived from some hydroskeletal system of their starfish-like ancestors. This chord coils around the ball-joint of the hands and feet and rapidly contracts and releases tension, spinning the joints in the process. In order for the hands and feet to grow, that would require timely temporary connections to the main body. Once every month or so, the ball-joint will fuse to the body with connective tissues. A store of fats within the forearms and legs will be transported to the extreameties over a few days. The hands and feet will also receive oxygen and minerals. Once sufficient resources have been transported, the hands and feet will break all connections with the body once again, and will become dormant. If 3! stop growing at some point in their lives, like humans, then the extreameties may become dead organs preserved by the enzymes of 3! bodily secretions.
Somehow they must believe they are equal to 3, thouth the significence of the exclaimation point must orignate from various 'wierd maths.' Since that name is translated from vibrations and EMPs, I suppose humans have no choice but to pronounce the name the way it is seen.

I love how the name is simply 3. XD
Very interesting body structure too.

Acually it's 3!, with an exclaimation point.
Thay did evlve from starfish, more or less.

I have no idea how it is really pronounced by them, especially since they have no sense of hearing.

They communicate through EMPs and vibrational body language. I beleive it is more of an EMP transmision.
