"Ah yes, Mermaidens... I know these creatures all too well... Basically, they're genetically pigeon-holed in that they're all female. That means they rely on 'donor' species to reproduce. If you're compatible, they'll cut you open and take what they need on the spot... If you're lucky... If you're not... Well, let's just say you're in for a very long and 'interesting' stay at whatever lair they have..."

As our beneficent narrator up there put it, Mermaidens are an interesting species. A species of all-female, hybrid aquatic mammals with very distinctive fish-like features. While technically amphibious, they are by far more at home in the water, as they are sluggish and unwieldy on land at the best of times. If one were to (somehow) study Mermaidens for long enough, they would notice the curious lack of any male specimens. Mermaidens are all female, and require a male donor from another compatible species. It is believed that only a 33% genetic match is needed, and given their mammalian, vaguely humanoid appearances, it is rather unfortunate that humans fall quite neatly into that category. Ships and crew go missing all the time, and it's easy to assume they all just drown after all...

Mermaidens are highly specialised towards this surprisingly symbiotic lifestyle, and possess numerous adaptations for acquiring the genetic material they need to reproduce. A Mermaiden's vocal chords allow them to vocalise at wavelengths that specifically entrance and bedazzle male creatures, and even their normal voices are known to daze and confuse victims, making conversing with them something of a test of will. Mermaidens are able to take on rather unassuming, and as some might say "beautiful" appearances, only to unveil their true natures when their hapless victims close to killing range. Mermaidens are psychotic, and have an array of razor-sharp claws and teeth, ideal for spearing their usual diet of fish, but also very capable of slicing through flesh and muscle, and just like sharks, packs of them have been known to dismantle creatures of frightening size.

So yeah... This is what Mermaidens are like when they aren't exposed to the blissful insanity that is Mythrealm. Psychotic castration fish ladies who abduct people to make more of them. Also, decided to draw a baby Mermaiden, because d'aww isn't she cute- OH GOT NOT THE FACE AAAAAAGH-

Turns out the babies are also little murder machines... Who'd of thought? As for why the result of their pairings is always another Mermaiden, instead of the other species or some weird ugly hybrid... Uh... Who knows? Mystery and all that stuff...
